I have an '89 s13 with an sr2odet redtop. the car was running bad so I pulled the plugs to see what they looked like. They were all hand tight and the last one has stripped threads on the head. How do I find a replacement head or repair this. I heard time-serts are good but can they handle a turbo motor?

just run a tap through it, just be careful not to re tap it crooked.
afterwards just stick a magnet though the hole to pick up and of the shavings.. or use a vacuum .. just macgyver something up to clean up

^ ummmmmm, last I checked AL doesnt stick to magnets. its most likely junk head now. you can try things like heli-coil, but the pressures are huge and will most likely blow out. find a machine shop in the phone book and ask them what they would do in that case, and be sure to tell them its an Al head and turboed

when aircooled VW heads have this happen, they are drilled out, rewelded closed, then drilled and tapped.

Best bet is to take it off the engine, and then to a machine shop...any capable shop could repair this.

However you can also find spare SR heads for 100-200 dollars. Hard to say what a shop may charge labor wise...maybe easier to find a spare head, have it checked and install it.

FWIW: May as well put a metal HG on the car while the heads off too...unless you plan on staying at stock power levels.

Regardless, you're going to remove the head anyways so you may as well have a good shop take a look at it before buying another.
