I want to change my gear oil but i wanna make sure im on the right track. ive googled this but the info is mixed, so let me get this straight i open the filler hole and drain the old oil from the drain hole and add in the new product from the filler hole, or can i just drain it with out opening the filler hole and add it from the shifter hole????? wats the best method. thanks ima keep searching though

are you talking about your differential or your transmission? shifter hole is making me think transmission, yes you can drain it and fill it from the shifter hole. if you have a pump thingy you can make sure you get all of it out from the drain hole and still fill it from the shifter. takes 2 1/2 pints iirc.

Always drain from the drain hole on bottom of transmission.
You can fill it anyway you feel most comfortable...through shifter plate (which requires you to take it off, and reseal) or through the side check/inspection/fill hole.
Once drained, obviously put the plug back in. THen when refilling, remember to fill it until it comes out of the same side fill/inspection hole. As it's slowly 'overflowing' just put the plug back and and call it a day.

yeah but to drain it do i still have to open the filler hole so it can drain properly, for example when you change your engine oil you must open the oil cap and then the drain plug hole so it can come out properly , so my question is can i have the shifter open and open the drain hole so it can drain properly or i must have the filler hole open?

WHo said you need to remove the oil cap when doing an oil change? I mean I guess it's not going to hurt, but your system isn't sealed 100% as it is.
I usually loosen both, and then remove the drain by hand, and the fill when I'm ready to fill that up. Much like the oil, the shifter trim/hole area (to include the vent) isn't 100% sealed either.

Remember you want non synthetic for it. I'd honestly say run the cheapest stuff/mid range stuff, it's all going to make zero difference.
I know it's not 'ideal' but I'm a lazy guy and don't care, but I run the same Rotella 80w/90 in the diff and in the transmission. It's obviously thick and mushy but works great as the car sees track days most of summer. If you are daily driving it, stick to the 75w90.

Pretty quick/easy job...longest part will be jacking it up and getting stands under it haha.

A few helpful things.
To fill through the shifter you either remove the shifter itself with a pair of c-clip pliers, and there is 2 c-clips, 1 of which was a super bitch and I got a short shifter because I wasn't able to put it back in. Don't do this if you don't have c-clips, and make sure if you remove the second ring you can put it back in. I just couldn't figure it out, the second ring had no holes for the pliers.
OR you could remove the shifter plate via the 6 12mm bolts. 2 of which are too far forward and usually require you going under the car for. Once it's off you need to pull the plate, make sure no gasket maker remains get in the trans, clean the gasket maker remains, re gasket maker, and reinstall the plate. A bit of work if you ask me for a trans. oil change.
The last and most normal method is indeed the filler whole. The tough part about this guy is you can't hold the bottle up and let it gravity feed into the trans via this hole. You need a small pump made for this purpose, about $9 at auto parts stores. It screws onto the oil container (replacing the original nozzle) and has a long tube you put in the filler hole. Then pump away, at least 50/pumps per bottle. It's a workout for sure, but it's straightforward and has the least chance of failure.
Also when checking if the oil is coming out of the filler hole (done) make sure the car is level! If you jacked the entire car up equally then you can get under, fill, check, close up and lower. However, if you lifted just the front left side (what I do), then fill it a goooood bit (~2.4 quarts, not less! 2 < 2.4 ) and then lower the car completely with a pan under the trans. If you see oil dripping out into the pan you've put too much, let it drain and then when it's done close it up. If it doesn't drip, add some more and repeat this step.

Thanks fellas mission accomplished i did it from the shifter the c clip wasnt so bad u just have to have the right tools :)
