View Full Version : Wheels wont turn O.o?

Ok, so I did a 5 lug swap not too long ago just replaced the front/rear hub. Drove fine and had no problems. Went to the junkyard and got some q45 brakes and rotors for cheap. I went to get the rotors resurfaced and new brake pads for the swap. After the brake install and bled the brakes I finish up and put back on the wheels. When putting on the lug nuts I realized my wheels wont spin. If I apply ALOT of force then the wheels would sorta move. So I take off my wheels and try to spin the rotors. It spins with no problem... after many times putting on wheels and taking it off I decide to drive it and see what's up. It drives but still having a hard time to spin. The brakes work fine when pressing the brake pedal. Looking at the rotors there's no big scratches letting me know that the pads are rubbing hard on the rotors. So what the problem is??? Does anyone know whats wrong with my brakes/wheels/hub? This apply's to my front wheels. Let me know if pictures are needed to better understand the problem. Thanks everyone

this may sound kinda dumb but the wheels clear the calipers?

hahah trust me lot of dumb things can happen but no everything clears. I'm running 17x9 +17 fronts.

take the e brake off -_-

yeah listen for any rubbing/grinding when you drive, and just visually inspect the caliper/wheel clearance. because other than that i would say it was a bad bearing but if the rotor spins w/o the wheel on i'm gonna guess and say there's an issue with the wheel.

Yeah just went downstairs to snap a pic. running out of ideas what it could be....What does e-brake have to do with front wheels

did you over torque them?

edit nvm read it all.

check the calipers to make sure theyre not seized. also grease the sliders.

I drove it around the garage and didnt hear grinding or rubbing. But I can feel grinding through the car. Does abs on the q45 brakes create problems? there's wires on the brakes and been cut at the junkyard.

If they are seized the brakes wouldn't work right? and what sliders?

sounds like the wrong rotors, Like when you use 30mm rotors on the 26mm Z32 calipers

maybe the place that turned them gave you the wrong set back?

That could be a possibility. I dont think they gave me the wrong ones. but yeah would all this happen if I use different size rotors??

well yeah of course because the calipers are designed for certain sized rotor. if your rotor spins freely with the wheel off i still think it's gotta do with the wheel. but if you turn your rotor and you hear/feel grinding then yeah you have the wrong size. but i doubt it could be the rotors...but it's one of those process of elimination deals.

Ok well I can turn the rotor freely when wheels are off. yeah just only when the wheels are torque'd down the wheels wont turn.hmm any pics or anything to help better see whats going on? let me know guys.

Put just the lug nuts on and tq them down.

My buddy and I were just talking about that. Going to get open end lugnuts and see if this still happens i'll keep on updating on what's happening if anyone else has ideas keep them commin :wiggle: Thanks to those who help give input.

check the bolts on the calipers to see if hitting the backside of the rotors. happened to me when i did my zbrake and one of the bolts was like 1mm too long and was scrapping the rotor. had to put a washer after.

Next thing I would try is throwing a 5mm spacer on there.
The wheel may be rubbing somewhere where you cant even see it. A spacer would let you know if thats the case.

depending on your struts and or coilovers, check to see if the wheel is rubbing them. I had the same issue, went from a ticker center on my rotor to a thinner center and i lost clearance. If thats not an issue, tighten your lugs down without the wheel. If it still spins rule out the caliper and or any bolts rubbing the rotor.

Hmm I did use the q45 bolts for the calipers....hmmm and the s13 bolts are a little shorter than the q45 ones. anybody who has q45 know about this?? Still no luck on finding open lugnuts yet.

The parts stores have them behind the counter. They only put the shiny lugsets out on the display racks.

i used my s13 bolts. i say just go look at the rear of the rotor and see if there is any markings from scrapping. and yes, it only only happened to me when i had the wheels on, once i took them off you can spin the rotor freely. and it was only one of the bolts i believe the lower one.

ya when i went 26mm z32 i put the z32 bolts it would hit the rotor..so i just used the stock s14..that might be your answer if you wheels clear..gl

Oh yea! it was the humongous bolt for the Q45 I used. Put the stock bolts on perfect :wiggle: Now I have this huge gash in the inside of my rotors I think i'll drive on them for a bit and see how it holds up in a track day. Thanks everyone I have coupe rear seats 5 lug stock rotors and 4 lug hubs for free if anyone need them for thank you's.

well i know this problem is resolved..but just alittle heads up for someone else who might have a problem with the whole wheel thing..sometimes tires dont clear your coilovers and the coils start to bite the tires so always check that too haha
