View Full Version : Hi. Silly question regarding wheel offsets inside.

Yup, I searched. I even found something interesting that I think might help me.

From my searching, I think S14 SE 5 stars are +40 offset.

That's all well and good, but what I'm really curious about is what the stock offset of FD3S RX7 alloys is. i've heard that it's possibly +40, but it's a 16x8JJ wheel, and I'm not sure if it'll fit, so I've got a couple questions:

1. Could anybody tell me what the stock offset of those 3rd gen RX7 wheels is? That'd be grand.

2. What does the "JJ" in the above wheel size denote? Anything special that I should be aware of.

I think I'll probably wanna run a 15mm spacer just to make sure it clears the suspension on the fastback (AGX's with RS*R race springs and 300ZX TT brakes on a 5 lug swap, if we're getting into particulars).

I'd really just love to use a set of these because they're not something expensive and nice I'll have to be really concerned about banging up at autocrosses or track meets or have to get really anal about curb checking them like I would a nice set of aftermarket wheels.

Besides, I don't really want anything bigger than a 16" wheel. I mean, they're cool and all, I just don't need anything bigger if I can get enough tire onto a 16x8.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate some help. I'm looking on rx7club and google as well, but wanted to ask you fine people since I'm already here.

IIRC the FD wheels are +50 offset... Thats just off the top of my head though.

So i say a 20mm bolt on spacer would do you good. And no the "jj" doesnt mean anything special. I think it has to do with lip design.... someone correct me. :coolugh:

You are correct. I just got an email in response to one I sent to someone from the RX7 boards and he confirmed that the 3rd gen wheels are 16x8 with a +50 offset.

So a 20mm spacer and some longer wheel studs and i'll be in good shape?

Excellent. :D

Just personal preference but i'd run at least a 30mm spacer. That's if you want it pretty close to flush.

for a spacer that big I'd go with the kind that bolt into your hub then bolt onto the wheels, like the H&R's.

What he said.

And an s13 with 16x8 +30 offset would sit just fine. No real need to go any lower with the offset.

20mm bolt on spacers are rare. Why? They are dangerous. Because they are not thick enough to securely hold the base of the stud in comparison to the length needed for the lugnut to thread enough. Also, I think it is too thin for the nuts to hold on the spacer to the current studs and be flush. Shoot Im not positive, DriftingPanda explained it to me today (what a coincidence) but i probably didnt pay attention. Haha.

So 25mm bolt on apcer, or 30mm. OR very long studs and 2 10mm sandwich type spacers. But honestly for that size, bolt on would probably be safer.... i dunno.

JJ is lip design. Most passenger cars are J or JJ. Offroad wheels with lips designed to fit offroad tires have specific designations, and hevy machinery, commercial truck wheels, light transportation etc... all have specific designations as well...

I had planned on using H&R spacers. If 30mm is safer then that's what I'll get. I'm not worried about how it looks so much as that for how much I'll be paying for the wheels I can put a whole bunch of tire on them compared to something nice i'll be afraid of messing up with curb rash and whatnot.

So get those Nismo 60mm wheel studs and the 30mm H&R spacers and I'll be in good shape?

'Preciate it, guys.

I have the 20mm H&R's with 60mm nismo studs and they have been great for the street and autox. H&R only sells adapter style spacers (for our application atleast) once you go past 20mm. 25mm & 30mm are adapter style, which is perfectly fine. I know many people autox and attend drift events on these without incident. I think someone's concern was that if you were to find a 20mm adapter style spacer then that would not be safe and you should steer clear. Hope this helps some.

I've read that RX7 wheels are nut hub centric, and won't fit..

or something like that.. I know it had something to do with centerbore, or hubsentric design or something.

Might want to look into it a bit more.

I'll do that, I didn't even consider that when I was asking questions before.

What is the centerbore for S14 SE wheels? I'd just go measure, but I'm not sure how to create that management. The centerbore for FD wheels is bore on the wheels is 67.1mm

Thanks again, guys.

edit: I'll PM old_S13 and see if he had any problems. I really appreciate it, guys.

get the magnet off your head its affecting your brain... bolt on spacers like mine dont require longer studs. they have a set of studs on them. you saw what mine looked like when Tony was putting his wheels on my car at hyperfest.

No, actually I didn't.

I know like this much -> <- about how wheel spacers work, I just assumed that if I got spacers, I'd need new wheel studs.

That's it, bunghole. I'm callin you.

El Cheapo Racing Hart Evolution C2000. circa 2000.. had um since like two months after I got the car. 17x7 and a 42mm offset. spacers are bolt on 25mm (17mm effective offset) but after seeing Kookz's rims on Russ's car I am sold on the Fn01RC. and since the price is quite doable thats even better. haha matter of fact I can get one of the rims for the cost of these spacers :D so guess what your buying? lol :D
