i was wondering if it was possible to swap my ka24e on a 1990 hatch to a ka24de with 5 speed and still be california smog legal. i will have all the smog parts on it and gonna keep it as DD.
my fear is that if my chassis is 1990 and the engine is '95 ka24de would the smog test shop fail me on that.
please help with any info u have. thank u in advance.

As long as the engine is newer than the chassis and you have all the emissions equipment then you'll be okay.

Yes it will be safe. Like mentioned above just make sure that the engine is newer and has all the smog components and you should be golden. Hit the search button next time and you'll find alot.

yea i searched for a bit and even asked a smog technician weather or not dohc swap was legal. dude told me no, vehicle is considered modded because it no longer has the original engine that came with the chassis and that it was replaced by a stronger newer engine. and yes i did explain to him that the dohc does have all the smog stuff and its just newer and got an extra cam. lol.
well fuck, am i glad to be on the safe side then. thanks for the help guys

You need to get a white CA State BAR sticker showing the approved swap. Typical visual inspection, smog test, and ultimately approval is all included.
I have a 89 coupe with s14 KA OBDII approved.
