i know when you covert a turbo with an internal wastegate to an external you have to weld the flap shut. is there anyother way of doing this ?? i wanna run a top mount setup using my oem t28. im not looking to buy a bigger turbo w/o a wastegate yet.
Lmk know what you guys think and if you think im stupid tell me please because im new to the turbo setup haha. pics help too if anyone has any ! thanks !

keep the t28 bottom mount and save up til you get a bigger turbo and manifold and everything that goes along with going top mount

To answer your question, you can make your old 'brace' that keeps the flapper shut...most cases involve either getting ride of the OE actuator and adding a metal bar, or some guys (granted I don't suggest it, but it works) use mechanics wire and snug it up.
HOWEVER top mount manifolds are 99% all T3 flanged...your t28 wouldn't bolt up with an adapter...and then you'd need to a super custom downpipe as well, as it wouldn't work with any other turbos but the factory one.
So in the end, as you said, save up for the good stuff and enjoy what you have now :D

hah thanks, that helped alot. im about to do a swap so ive just been getting ideas and prices of parts so i can start buying them now. i decided on going with the bottom mount setup just because its way cheaper. some of this stuff is so confusing ha.
