I just joined on here and I'm thinking about starting a build for a first car. Hopefully finding a nice s13 coupe shell and vq35de. Has anybody on here done this build and could give me some advice on it? I heard there are some wiring issues and ECU problems. This is going to be a low budget build so i dont want to buy an aftermarket ECU. Any info would be great! Thanks

Then this is not the build for you. If you want a budget build, you should start with an SR or KA-T set up. vq35 swap is not for beginners/low budgets.

VQ swap is no-where near low budget. if you can do all the labour, fabrication, wirings, you are looking to atleast spend $4000 on parts, material.
The ecu problem is just getting the NATS wired up. You can eliminate it by reflashing the ECU with uprev($500ish).

well whats the most expensive part about the build? I was just going to use a maxima engine that i found for cheap and find a transmission from a g35. sorry if i sound dumb btw

i guess if you are using a maxima engine..it'll be cheaper but what's the point? most of them have over 160k miles. You should do your own research and compile a list of how much everything cost.
Beside that here is a general idea of the labour involve for fabrication.
engine+tranny mount 10hrs
exhaust 10-15hrs
wiring harness - 5-6hrs
add all the small stuff like, coolant hoses, power steering..etc
You should just buy the whole VQ swap that someone (i think its drift freak) selling..
