One of the best things to happen on television in years.

I talked about it back in March.

The schedule changed since I wrote that, but my opinion has not.

I agree. One of the best things on right now.

They have all these lcd tv's mounted in our athletic center on campus and instead of doing our workouts one day after practice, a bunch of my teammates and i were caught standing around watching the one on Marcus Dupree. Our coach was annoyed at first because he thought we were just dickin around being lazy, but then he realized what we were doing and was like "oh. yeah thats a fantastic series. *he watches for a few minutes* now get back to the weights." hahaha

On a completely unrelated note, dude i didn't know you were from Greensboro?! I have A LOT of family there!

They have released the first season on DVD for anyone that's interested. Once I recover from holiday shopping, I'm planning to pick it up!

Being the Sox fan that I am, I really want to see the episode about the ALCS back in '04 when the Sox were down 0-3 to the Yanks and then came back with 4 straight wins to move on to the world series and eventually win. But the episode came out after I got deployed, so I'll have to try to find it when I get back next year

^not a baseball fan but that doc. was epic. dont think it was as meaningful as say, the 16th man but still a good watch, probably more so if youre a fan of the soxs

That is the crazy thing about the series.
You don't have to be into the sport in question, but the human element makes it infinitely likeable.

Exactly, my wife loves the series and watches it with me whenever it's on. She's not a sports person at all but there's such a connection with the viewer and the story that it draws you in...

"What if I told you..."

If those words don't give you goosebumps you are missing out. This is entertainment meets documentary on a level that you rarely see on TV. Its refreshing that the directors that actually have a story to tell are being given this spotlight. Stories that appeal on all levels of the emotional spectrum.

"What if I told you, that a movie could change the way you look at sports."

run ricky run made me wanna cry, the one about the haiti under 18 womens soccer team almost made me cry. and the 2 escobars was extremely good.

I have seen quite a few of them and have been contemplating buyi9ng them since i saw they were out. But Phlip put my sentiments down first. "One of the best things to happen on television in years." If not the best to happen to sports television ever.

Don't hate on the 80's style ;)

The best part was during the credits that more schools were caught doing worse things and they did not have their football programs cut in the least. I also loved when they interviewed a few of the boosters!

Yeah, it wasn't the best, but it was still quite entertaining. It would have been crazy to see the jumpman playing ball the following season (If there was not a strike that year). It still burns me that there was one that year BTW. The Expos' were going to win it all :(

"there is a time to play and there is a time to win. what you do in winning time, that differentiates between just a regular player and superstar."

out of all the 30 for 30s ive seen ive watched this one the most. just really well made and enjoyable to watch. not too serious either

Agreed, it was a great documentary. I didn't know the story as well and it must suck for Webber to have those events looming over his head.

The Association: Episode 1 - Boston Celtics Blog - ESPN Boston (http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4678578/the-association-episode-1)

The Vladi Divac/Drazen Petrovic story was amazing. I shed a couple tears at the end when Divac hit Petrovics memorial site. This series has me hooked!

The two Escobars was legit as well. A robin hood story with a devastating twist.

I just finished watching the Fab 5! What a GREAT episode!!! It really showe'd them for who they are. Good or bad, they did it their way...I thought it was weak that Webber didn't do the documentary. But there's a reason...According to Jalen Rose on that Simmons podcast he leveled some really harsh allegations at the booster who gave him a loan. Rose had nothing but nice things to say about that guy, but apparently Webber hit him up for a 5-figure loan right before the draft and then stiffed him once he got paid.

Then the fallout of the Final Fours being rescinded came along.

Rose said the booster wasn't 'rich-rich' and he looked out for all the local poor kids, and said that Webber acting the way he did almost ruined their friendship.

IMO it's a pretty shitty guy who takes a $10k + loan and then sells you out all the while riding to the bank.

I too thought that was very odd.

Rewatched 'The U' last night...man I love that one... a true decade of decadence!

Fab Five was great, Im glad I caught it.
I like the ones that have happened in my lifetime because I remember how I felt when i was actually watching it go on.
the fab five, The U, I remember watching them both on TV when I was a kid and I loved it then. Its great to be able to see the back story and emotional standpoints from the people actually living it.

Eps I would want to see done:
Christian Hosois vs Tony Hawk - they used to battle for skateboard supremacy back in the day. One became a household name, the other went to jail for smuggling drugs.

Lance Armstrong - cancer, doping, Tour de France wins... would make a good doc.

Maradona - the life, triumphs and failures of the "Hand of God".
(one on Pele would be cool too)

FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid - doc on the history of rivalry.

Sebastian Loeb - record number of WRC titles

Michael Schumacher - the best F1 driver ever?
(one on Senna would rock aswell)

Iron Mike Tyson
