View Full Version : NRG Slim hub sits bad

So i bought an NRG Slim hub *used* from a seller here to use a deep dish bought from Pink Godzira, if i try mounting it onto the spline with the NRG facing up, it sits crooked. I found a "sweet spot" for the wheel to sit perfectly horizontal for when i drive straight, but the turn signal cancelers block my right turn signal from engaging when my steering wheel is straight (which defeats the purpose of having a turn signal before turning)
Is there anything i can do other than buy a new hub? Cause i don't have the money right now

You can shave off the turn signal cancellers. I've been running my aftermarket steering wheels like that for over three years.

true, but idk man it would be a last resort before buying something else though. So is there nothing that would fix it? I can't like shift the spline over about .5mm ?? FFUUU

Look man, the sad truth is some aftermarket companies don't make parts 100% OEM compatable. I've never heard this problem with NRG before but who knows... WorksBell hubs are the shit but do you really need to spend close to 300.00 for a new hub especially if you don't has the funds? I say you shake off that polio and manually shut off your turn signals for now, if it really bugs you save some duckets up head over the FRSPORT.com and then get a new one. Either way good luck man, maybe you can post a pic of said issue with your hub too, maybe there is an install error or something?

dude the splash/works bell slim hubs are 150$ not 300? I won't be able to fit a q/r without it being in my face so idk. I never heard of this problem either, im going to call nrg and ask wtf is up but i doubt theyll care since its second hand. It's not the turn signal cancellation not working - the little prongs blocks one of the turn signals from engaging at all and i don't wanna fuck it up so if i ever wanna sell it

yeah its really fucking stupid of me, im only anal about my car nothing else. I think it's just the whole me wanting everything to fall into place mentality
That's strange I also have the nrg short hub, but my signals work normal as if I had my oem wheel.

More like "many companies make inferior copies of other products, just learn to live with the fact that you paid for a knockoff."

what car is it? S13 or S14?
but seems like it's S14 cuz the turn signal cancel function works differently from S13 to S14..
So, what's most likely is happening is that the turn signal cancel ring/blue ring is not sitting right. when the wheel is straight, the 1 notch sitting by itself should be facing up. NR-G hubs have grooves on the back to fit into the blue ring, but I haven't been able to get mine to fit on both of my S14's with NR-G hub, so the fix was to use the stud that comes with the Hub[which is for S13's turn signal cancel] and my turn signal cancels like it's supposed to.
Here's a picture for your reference if you have a S14.

two notches on the bottom and the single notch facing top. and that is also how you would wire up your horn on S14. copy the picture as seen and plug the pin into the yellow harness's top right[top right pin being, if you are looking at the harness with the release clip on top]
Hope this helps.

as much as i appreciate this help, because it is the only one of value so far. I have an s13, it has the 2 metal tabs on the back and no ring. The cancelers are built into the hub, one on top and one on bottom. I'm putting my OCD aside for now, dealing with the hub being crooked cause i also thought it might be my steering wheel since it isn't a "legit" company.
But yeah, i drove at my school parking lot (fairly smooth and plenty of room to test) with the stock steering wheel on. It sat straight and so i marked off where the "top" should be on the spline, then i put the hub on to match the mark i made, it sat crooked. It's either one or the other, but the cancelers work fine with it sitting crooked so w.e. That's what matters right now, i can get over a crooked steering wheel faster than dysfunctional signals.
Thank you though, Mad-Ass

Thanks for the S14 info...

one of the NR-G hubs were off of my S13 when I swapped everything over to S14. So it's the exact same hub I used on S13 that is now on the S14. those tabs/bronze studs can be taken out with a vise grip FYI.
I am also using pinkgodzila's JDM steering wheel and other S14 I have I am using nr-g steering wheel, and they both sit slightly to the left.
if you really want to fix it, leave your hub where it's at, and undo the steering shaft u-joint at the steering rack and turn it 1 spine at a time until it sits perfect. Probably the only way to fix this problem.
hope you can over come your OCD or do the above. LOL

but yeah i was thinking about disconnecting the steering shaft somewhere and doing that but w.e man its not THAT bad and i'm not that much of a perfectionist. Ok, so you have the same wheel as me and it tilts to the left too... I lined it up with my desk, since the side is straight, but i couldn't really tell cause it seems like its just a pinch off center.
It's probably nrg's fault combined with the steering wheel being tiny off (i really don't think this is it though)
all i can say is... I'll deal with it:coolugh:

there ARE other cheap hubs out there. i've used grant (ok but horn ring wore after a couple years) and then i used MOMO for years, which are fine.
lots of choices out there.
