I spent a while trying to figure out if this should be a Motorsports thread, but it's more of a news/ shout out thread...... because I owe a lot of people thanks, and am STILL on an adrenaline rush from an incredibly dramatic season finale (where my co-driver and I swapped 1st place by hudreths of a second multiple times).

Pending official results, I've taken the New England Region Solo II Street Modified season championship by 2 points over the tie for 2nd between my co-driver Jeff (http://www.jmcn.com) and Troy Nelson (VW GTI). So... baah you to all you nay sayers that say 240's can't be competative at autocrossing.

http://www.jmcn.com/temp/pjwin.jpg

And... here come "shout outs" (although maybe I should wait till things are official?)

A very special thanks to Jeff for the pic and for co-driving the car and making things a challenge for me. Without you, it wouldn't have been the same and I would've had the class lead like 2 events ago . But, if that was the case I wouldn't have become a better driver, and we wouldn't have a good team getting ready for National competition.

Thanks to Matt for carrying a couple tires for me, and for feeding the competition between me and Jeff with lines like "oh... he looks MUCH faster than you through that section......"

Thanks to Mark for providing me with awesome pit support. A race team couldn't ask for a better pit crew. Sorry for making you run for the silencers when we thought we were over 95 db, though. Also thanks for the place to stay, and I still owe you dinner man.

Thanks to Charlie for providing all the snacks and food at the last event. Hurry up and join the crew on a more permanent basis!!

Thanks to Sandra for making my tires look pretty. Having white sidewall lettering was the key to looking good Oh yeah, your moral support might've helped as well.

Thanks to Matt and Jose for the MA support (especially from the double header event). Knowing I've got a couple SR's a few steps back helps keep the KA moving in a (rapid) forward direction

Thanks to Carl at Soundworks Inc. for always helping out fellow 240sx owners. My intake would still look like crap without that aluminum peice you gave me.

Finally, thanks to Jeff at CIP Motorsports (http://www.cipmotorsports.com) for the cool sticker to put on my car, as well as the great tech and parts support and having great prices on cool stuff that everyone should buy now while supplies last!!

next is new suspension, and some bracing. decided to just finish the s14 off before really getting into the next project..... that way we have a car to take to nationals next year if we can reach the goal of getting a couple top 10 PAX finishes for our region (NOT easy considering there's easily 10 or more guys who trophy at Nationals every year in our area).

well, we were pushing the car REAL hard towards the end of the day, but the suspension is NOWHERE near dialed in just right (which is crazy). The highlights of the car right now are power and braking, as well as the Victoracers being able to handle the heat compared to some other tires greasing up (track was HOT by afternoon runs).

The full Q45 brake swap and z32 MC let the car dive into corners MUCH deeper. We tried Jeff's car during morning runs for 2 tries and the car just doesn't want to brake as well (z32 fronts, stock rears and MC). The power building so fast is also a big plus, since there were only a few short sections where we could actually accelerate, and 1 very important section that required smooth power delivery to get through quickly.

Suspension at this point is GR2's in the front and AGX's in the rear, since one of my Koni's has been out of commission from blowing out driving through Boston a year ago. If we had some Tein HE's or GC coilovers instead of Eibach Sportlines, we might be hitting Nationals this year...... even if we WOULD get our asses handed to us. :coolugh:

Thanks for the props!

But... I wouldn't say it's a headline.... Dousan making top 14 (that was at the D1 US driver selection wasn't it?) is probably just as big. Regionals aren't THAT big of a deal, but for me it's the first step to competing more seriously... such as at Nationals.

Plus... the results aren't official yet.... (although, I don't think anyone is protesting my last event win....)

anyways, the Season points (not including the last event) can be found here:
http://www.ner.org/soloII/solo2003/season03.htm

Being a class champ I get to run at the Stirling Moss Runoffs (http://www.ner.org/soloII/moss.html) against all the other current NER class champs in October.
I'm sure I'm gonna get my *** handed to me. The current trophy holder is the 2002 HS National Champion, and there are other past National Champions in the mix as well...... BUT, being in the mix with guys like that is a definite honor, even if I don't stand a chance (being inexperienced in comparison).

ahh... but at Nats I'd be up against the popular conceptions.... everyone knows M3's and such are fast... but when they have no restriction on engine, suspension, or drivetrain modification..... things can get hairy (2002 SM Nat. Champ was an M3....)

You get past one level and everything's great, till you realise that now you're just at the beginning of the next level :p

Yeah, read the thread in the Motorsports section called Driving Tips and Tricks. There's a lot of stuff on driving at an autocross. Hope you have fun at your first event!! After my first I got addicted :)

I just did some calculations based on the event before last results. Our times are comparable to the STS leader of the event, Nathan Whipple, who placed in 3rd at 2002 Nationals in STS. His times at Nationals are comparable to the mid-pack of the SM class. In theory that makes US comparable to the mid-pack of the SM class at the National Championship level.

Now.... next year we're hoping to have the car prepped a LOT better, with more power, more grip, and a better suspension setup. In addition, we'll have even MORE seat time. I really think we've got a shot at getting within striking range for a National trophy. now.... THAT would be some headline news for 240sx owners :D
