Well, A previous discussion about nismo products has made me rethink my plans to purchase their engine and tranny mounts. I had though, for some reason, that they were poly mounts, but because they are just harder rubber, I'm not really sure if they're worth the money.

Does anyone know of any other aftermarket mounts? (preferably polyurethane or something a bit more sturdy than rubber.)

Uras along with other companies make poly mounts. Unfortunately, they will rattle your teeth out of your head. If this car is going to be street driven AT ALL, I would strongly recommend against them.

ya ruf is 100% right. rattle and you'll feel everything

closest to OEM besides straight up OEM is

Nismo

aftermarket:
URAS
Kazama
Free Dom (i think they have noe for s-chassis)

and there are lots more..i cant remember them all
the 1st 3 (nismo, uras, kazama) are easiest to get stateside

I filled my OEM mounts with polyurethane, it cost me under 5 dollars to do the 2 engine mounts and transmission mounts. Just 1-2 tubes of polymer and a few days to dry, and they were done.

I installed them, they feel good. For some people, they can be considered a bit much, but for me.. I think they are fine. I think driving with no power steering is fine. Everyone has their preferences, its up to you to make the final choice.

My engine is like a rock, it does not move at all. If you try to move the engine, the entire car moves. If you slide the car, the transmission does not wobble around -- you can actually keep your hand on the shifter and shift, you dont even have to worry about grinding. I used to run into that problem, where I would slide the car and on the exit.. try to shift, but because the transmission was still bouncing around I would just grind -- not anymore. That shock that attaches from the strut tower to the head is absolutely useless, it would never even come close to compressing with the current setup.

VW guys have been using billet aluminum mounts because their OEM ones would break. I think polyurethane filled OEM mounts is just a very cheap and effective alternative. Its worth a try.

If anyone wants to buy polyurethane, just go to your local hardware store and pickup a few packs. Fill the mounts, let them dry, and thank me later.

So what's the reccomended option for street and hopefully some track time then? Is it worth it to go with Nismo mounts or should I just grab some new OE mounts?

I'm pretty satisfied w/my Nismo's. Engine stays put real well and transfers the rattle to the chassis. The only place I can feel it is on the doors. And on my floorboard (no interrior). I'd say, if you need them, go for it. I was glad I got them.

Well, as far as whether I need them or not... I'm doing a CA swap right now, and I want to replace the mounts because I'm sure they're worn. The car, at this point, is basically just street driven. I do, however, hope to get some track time in eventually. At this point, I'm just not sure what to get. I REALLY don't want to make the wrong decision and decide I should have gotten the Uras mounts down the road or something. Dousan and Ruf, I know you guys know your #$%@, so I'm guessing that the URAS mounts aren't going to be the way to go, but should I go OE or are the Nismo's worth the price?

there's a great group buy going on for the nismo ones in eh GB forum..

here's the uras info from 1bad on freshalloy:

Yes, but I bet your teeth rattle at idle, right? Super hard motor mounts like the URAS mounts are really annoying to daily drive. I mean, so annoying to the point where I won't put them in my car. I think 100% solid mounts might rattle less than solid polyurethane does. It seems like they accentuate the rattling. My friend has URAS mounts in his 180, has for a few years. EVERY PART OF HIS CAR RATTLES NOW. Everywhere. Keys, change in the change bin, the doors, the windows, the bumper, stuff behind the bumper, everywhere!! If you asked him, he'd tell you not to get them.

If you run Nismo mounts with a solid brace like I do, the majority of the rattling is consumed in the rubber mounts. When the engine torques hard, the brace comes into play and eliminates movement. The trick is to allow a LITTLE bit of movement, but not much. With only Nismo mounts, my motor still rocked a lot with 350rwhp on tap... now with 400, it ain't moving, and its not any more annoying to drive.

Interesting thread. the idea of a solid brace like that frightens me though... i jus thad my strut towers welded up because of rust creeping into them. I'd rather not have them break due to the stress of the engine being put on them as well, lol. Sooo..... it looks like I'll probably go for the nismo mounts then. Thanks :)

So you say you're doing the CA swap, if I were doing that, I'd get some new mounts. You're gonna need them some time in the future, so why not kill 2 birds w/1 stone? Hit up that group buy. Cause right now I'm sure your mounts look like they need a tetnis shot and a good degreeser. I mean, they're over 10 years old! It seems like the way of the Uras ones are not the right way for you.
