what would you take a Sr20det or a Rb25det? Swap all included, no costs to you at all.
PS. I'm not giving any away I just want to see what you guys say...
I'll take the RB please.:D

Wow, what a trick question!
Here is why:
Most SR20DET's have lower miles..meaning they should last longer.
The RB25DET runs smoother, is a 6 cyl and IMHO is a better built engine.
Rebuild for the RB is MUCHO Denario.
RB is the better engine. IF the RB had 80K miles and the SR had 10K miles, I would pick the SR every time.
The choice has to do with indivigual selection. A really clean SR will beat a higher mileage RB in value..as in Maintainance expense.
I also would be very careful in hearing both motors run even if they were free before I started the swap. Nothing worse than installing an engine with great compression to find out it has a rod knocking or a foul camshaft or valvetrane.
If equal mileage..RB baby!

depends on a variety of factors
mileage
compression
year
turbo condition
etc..

ok say we were talking same miles, engines both run smooth, etc.

Ill take the RB anyday of the week. I personally would cut my losses. Even if it needed a rebuild, I didnt buy the engine. And why would the SR have lower milegae. The R34 DID come witha GTS-T and what year was that last made.....I dont recall, but it was recently. Last 3 years...not too up on my Skyline history

For my S13, I would go with the SR. Just because Its made for the car, and the balance ir right too. Im not a HUGE power guy. All I would look for is about 250-300 WHP, which is pretty easy with SR. Damn Enthalpy made 539 RWHP on a stock bottom SR, WOAH! I would go with S13 Kouki black top motor. This way I can retain power steering AND A/C because I do care. Im pretty sure you cannot retain it on S14 SR in S3 chassis, otherwise Id go with that motor even though I dont care for the variable timing stuff. Just cause it would be newer.

Yeah i agree. I dont really care for huge power. I would prefer i decently powered, well handling car. If you get the RB, it would put more weight upfront, upsetting the balance abit. If I were into drag racing, then maybe the rb would be a better choice.

The RB isn't much heavier (I know its 50lbs heavier than the CA...not sure about the KA tho)...nothing a CF hood and relocated battery wouldn't cure.

last time i checked the RB is more like 180 over the KA including the transmission. if the SR has better gas mileage, then i would pick it. what has the best gas mileage between the CA, KA, SR, and RB25?

S15 SR20DET with S14 transmission.

RB... then sell it and get an S13 redtop and however much goodies i could with the leftover money :D
i'm more about handling than big power, RB puts in more weight, all of it over the front of the car. i would be perfectly happy power-wise with 300rwHP (basic T28+support setup)

THANK YOU. I think people just shout that out without knowing. I cant tell the difference from the KA to the RB. And you can do things to make up for it. I removed the A/C. I will eventually move the battery to the rear. Also I will be getting a CF hood as my stock hood looks pretty grotesque underneath due to my fabulous cutting skills;)

Generally speaking the lower displacement enginge should have a higher mpg, but the boost is going to play a factor, and the condition of the engine and fuel system.
I would assume the CA18DET would have the best economy.

true. Boost plays a big part as does driving style. I go through ALOT of gas. I drive like a bat out of hell though. IF you are want good mileage, dont get a swap or drive slow. To me gas mileage and a swap are oxymorons

Hmmmmmm, I love SR's but you run across more SR's then you do RB's. I think I'd have to go with the RB.
