hey all,
i have a 1995 240 auto and want a red top sr swap. problem is, i am a mechanical idiot as far as swaps go, i can't do it myself because of lack of experience and time, my KA is about to die, and i am in chattanooga, TN, where apparently no one seems to be. i am willing to go as far as atlanta, birmingham, nashville, knoxville, or anywhere less than 3 hours for a shop that can do the swap for me, or even an individual that can do the swap for me (and i would like to have power steering and a/c running too, and the 5 spd swap). i got $4k. can anyone help me out? if you can, i will be able to show up once in a while but i got school and all, so i am stuck in chattanoga most of the time.
soo....anyone out there????

Umm you better budget more. Unless you get a hookup. A shop will get you. Think about it...An SR20 is gonna cost about 3000 with front clip and shipping and a little less for a motorset. You havent gotten into any aftermarket parts yet eitehr. Install WILL probably cost more than 1000. IF you are on a budget of 4000 as I was (mine was 3000 for RB20 swap) then do it yourself. If not, save some more money
Forgot AND you wanna do 5spd swap. Hmm that is more money. Parts may run you close to 100 bucks by itself. Not too sure. Clutch pedal. whatever cylinders you need. I dont know too much about tranny swaps. And a shop will probably charge 3 or 400 and that is being conservative. What about fuel? you will want to upgrade the fuel pump. Gauges. At LEAST boost and water temp. At a minimum. See how fast that 4000 went???

I just did my whole swap for $5500. Well, about to do, some of the stuff is here, and the motor is still in the mail. Blacktop SR, Stainless downpipe and test pipe, New GReddy Evolution 2 80mm Exhaust, Walbro 255 Fuel Pump, GReddy Type-R BOV, GReddy Front Mount, Single Boost Gauge in a single pod on the pillar, and an Apexi turbo timer. Labor on the swap was $1000.

mannnn...i wish i can make the drive over there. school just started though, and i dont think i have the time to wait over there for about 2 weeks or however long you take. its about a 30 hr drive. if this were 1 month ago i would take you up on that offer. @#$% the east coast!!! i know back in TX i would have been able to do it for 4k.

It would take ya 2 weeks if the lift broke and mike had to bench press it up there......J/K......
SR swap takes:
40 mins to pull KA
30 mins to drop SR in
a day or two to wire
Of course...ya need the right tools.....and to know what to do.....

yeah i have yet to see anyone THAT good around here (chattanooga/ATL/birmingham) for the price of $4k. its probably a cakewalk for you cali boys. shops here are asking $5-$6k for bare minimum swaps and they want 2-3 weeks.

boostfactor in dallas used to be able to, but i dont know if they do anymore. you might want to try lightspeed, jisatsu, or hyper in houston. theres one in san antonio, and one in austin but i forgot the names. there are also a couple more in dallas that i heard about, but i forgot those too.

I am in Chattanooga or Ringgold acutally. And there really is nowhere around here to do a swap. That FasTech on Brainard road is pure ****, my freind put his AE86 in there and it took them 4 1/2 months to do a engine swap, and my other friends MR2 is still there for almost over a year now. Just with and engine swap, no ECU, wire changing, nothing. There prices are way to expensive and they just buy crap off the internet and sell it to you for more. There is a guy on this forum that I know that is getting an SR swap now in chattanooga, his user name is TheSparo or something like that. His name is Jeff, ask him if he knows anymore about it.
By the way, where do you go to school?

my Mechanic at Ringgold Service Center could do it for sure in about a week. It took him one day to swap my engine. Call them and ask.

Bah, you people need to learn to be more resourcefull.
I have everything I need to do the swap except intercooler for $1700, and thats paying marked up chicago prices for the motor and sales tax. If I lived in cali it would be more like $1300.
