View Full Version : ANOTHER sr20 overheating tried everything !!!help

hey guys ive got a s14 with a s13 blacktop swap. New water pump, new isis radiator dual fans. Temp is fine without a thermostat but no matter what i install, currently a oe sr20det thermostat it overheats. Ive tried bleeding and bleeding but no avail. I also read that i need a s14 temp sensor so i purchased one but it will not plug into my wiring harness that i bought new from wiring specalties. im stumped!!!! any ideas ive read alot of people have this issue but no answers

You only need the S14 dash temp sensor (the smaller one with a spade connector) for your dash temp gauge to read properly. If you use the S13 sensor, your S14 guage will read incorrectly. You need to use a coolant temp sensor (the bigger one that sends signals to the ECU) that matches the motor, so an S13 240sx (SR/KA sensor is same for S13's). How are you measuring the temps? If you are just using the stock gauge, it's not accurate (you get cold, warm, screwed), esp. if you have the wrong gauge sensor. If you're getting it from an aftermarket gauge, then what temps are you getting and from what location (hot side hose, cold side hose, etc.) The stock thermostat doesn't open till 170 and isn't fully open until 194 degrees. Did you bleed the system per the FSM?

How's your radiator cap?
how does your car act up? Fine @ idle or does it overheat w/o load?

try buying and aftermarket water temp gauge...

im going to buy a aftermarke gauge over the winter, it would get cooler under load. Cap is new came with isis rad. I tried to buy a s14 ka temp sensor but my new harness designed for my s13sr into s14 harness was designed for the s13 plug? purchased from wiring specalites

sounds like a similar problem i had just keep bleeding it trust me. i also changed everythin

I would pay attention to what Homeslice is saying..Make sure th sensors are actually reading the temp correctly to match the guage cluster/motor etc.
Also I would invest in a swirl pop or a continuous bleeding device for your cooling system. Will help continually bleed AIR out of the system.
