hey guys. So i wana get a header for my car.... and ive read that hotshot has really good carb legal headers. but after searching on google, from the lack of results, im thinking hot shot probably isnt in business any more?

more over, I know dc sports has a 421 carb legal header for the 91-94 240 with ka24de,and was wondering if this could fit on my 95 zenki since its the same engine?

or if anyone knows of current carb legal headers for the zenki, that are good quality, please let me know...:(

Yeah, I think hotshot decided to close up after everyone started buying ebay ssautochrome crap. You could try finding one used.

lame..ive read good reviews about ssac's exhausts, but all the reviews for their headers are bad...maybe theyre good now? doubtful. But even if they were, theres no way theyre carb legal are they?

The DC Sports header is NOT CARB-legal for any s-chassis. Same goes for the Hotshot header.

I thought Greddy had a CARB-legal header for the S14 at one point, but I'm probably wrong. The CARB website has a huge list of everything that is legal.

Well thanks a ton for the info. Its exactly what I didn't want to hear, but its exactly what I needed to know. Guess that means no aftermarket headers for this 240:(

see thats what i thought. But is there a way to make it fit an s14? =(

also about greddy's headers, i read they were discontinued because they kept cracking and had to recall them 3x and they would still crack.

The only CARB legal header for the KA24DE that I know of that is still produced is the DC sports one. The hotshot headers are not CARB certified. I'm not sure if the old Greddy s-14 header was CARB legal or not, but good luck finding one. I'm in the market for one of those myself...

You are wrong.

Again, you are wrong.

The DC Sports header was/is PENDING CARB approval. It's been that way since it was made. It was never legal, and it probably never will be.

i suppose thats the magic/key word huh? =(

and racepar, if i were u, u might as well spend the time trying to track down some hot shots because the greddy ones, like i said, are known to crack. and from other reviews and such that ive read about hotshot, back in 03 or so, they were carb legal. i could be wrong though. just what i read. anywho, thanks for all the info guys.

il just spend header money elsewhere. ie suspension and shit.

Oh hey, look what I found:
http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-397-8.pdf

Isn't Google just AMAZING?

Summary: S14 Greddy, legal.
Every other S-chassis header, NOT CARB LEGAL.

Yep. I have two DC Sports headers. Neither being carb legal. Know this first hand because it was the reason why I got a ref ticket.

I had a Hotshot header on my first S13. Damaged when that car got totaled. Also not carb legal.

Not worth running a header in CA unless you can somehow fab up some brackets to run the stock heat shield.

Pending is still considered legal until they are denied. Take from someone who worked for a registered importer and talked to the carb board on a daily basis.

So to reiterate my statement THE DC HEADER FOR THE S13 IS CARB LEGAL. So you are wrong. Thank you and goodbye.

On to the dc header on an s14. Not sure if it fits. I it does I still will not be legal as the s14 is obd II and the s13 is obd I. If you have the cash you can take your car with any header to a company in Santa Ana CA called g&k and they will do all the testing to get the header carb certified if it can be. They are a legit company and know their shit. We used them exclusively at the importer I worked for to help in the testing of our vehicles.

That sux crimson. You shouldn't of gotten the ref ticket since they are pending approval and are considered legal.

My friend had one on his s13 and passed everytime with a cop/chp since it had carb pending on the header

I tried the whole pending approval BS with the ref. He said unless it was approved, it's not legal.

I just went back to stock, paid a $10 court fee and was on my way. Didn't get a fine.

I still agree with Kyle/Soreballz. The DC Sports header is not carb legal. Saying it is will only spread false information.

Thanks, but I know what I am getting into. I want the Greddy header specifically for it's design. Since I would have to weld an SR head flange onto it anyways for use on my SR20DE I'll beef it up plenty so that it won't crack. Aftermarket headers crack because they are not strong enough to support the weight they are carrying. Pretty much any aftermarket header has the potential for this problem. Suspension on my car is also EXTEREMELY well covered. If you weren't a NOOB here you would already know that though...

I'll check for one tonight when I get home (since I'm at work right now) but if there isnt one and I am wrong I will admit it no problem. But like i said from talking to the carb board pending is considered legal.

And crimson that is real wack. At least it only cost you $10 and a days work of changing them out.

even though the s13/s14 dc sports header isn't legal i've never had a problem with it when getting my car smogged or when cops have checked my engine. all they ever worried about was the cat and the air intake.

Weld a nut on to them and put the heat-shield back on.

forget the ideal of getting after market headers. just go turbo.
if u want a lil more power out of your headers then dremel port it out.
NA power is over rated.
and get a s13 exhaust cam.

He is worried about passing inspection. If it's this hard fro some headers, it'll be impossible with a turbo. Long-Tubes on a KA24DE do make a noticeable difference and give it a great "grunt".

They are also inexpensive. A turbo build your looking at $2-3k and a lot of man hours easily. SR Swap, same, 3-4k to DIR. Headers? MAYBE $500 and an afternoon.

The ONLY CARB Legal Header for the 240 is the Greddy S14 4-1 Manifold.
DC is stilling pending on the CARB EO for the S13 header but it has been for years and in all reality will not be given one.

I have the Greddy E.O. Number and PDF Doc. @ Home.
Will post when I get there.
