I just ordered a Silvia model that looks nice to build and put on the shelf. I have built model (flying) airplanes for a looooonnnnggg time and many plastic models of all sorts of cars etc..
Really, to do it right can take almost 6 months on a good model. Lots of really fine detail down to paining the speedo numbers.
Anyone found a damn good source for better quality models of our cars?
Testors seemed to never have a 240/180/200 of the S13 and their models can go from super advanced to cheesy.
This is what I got coming...

Looks good, rather have a fastback with pig-nose.
Turn me on to one please. I love talking 30 mins out of the day to deal with things in the hobby room on the table..

If you want some rare models and wheels check out www.hlj.com
If you need assistant go to automotiveforums.com cause they got a really good automototive art frum there. The guys are super nice and they got a incredible FAQ. THey have a lot of advanced modeleres there. any cars from silvias, skyline integras what ever! they got it all, just don go to the other forums on that website cause they suck

I underestimated this model...it is very detailed. the rims look just like the ones on my car (only scaled a shade wider, I did a scale measurement..9 1/2" teardrops! LOL!
The rear suspention is perfect in the detail and it even has disc brakes and calipers...that you will never see through the teardrops..all the way down to the chrome exhaust extentions..instrument panel...looking great!
Now I have to bury myself in the car modeling forum on "how toos" and probablly buy 100 in tools and all to do this one right..and yes, It will take at least 6 months. It is necessary to get 1200 grit sand paper and have a dust free environment.
Now...it has both the left and right hand drive options..once you decide, that is it...no going back..I want to do LHD but for accuracy sakes..I guess I need to do RHD. I also need to source all the lights for it..including dash lights. Something like this..you need to think long and hard before doing something as nothing is reversable. This is one reason it will take 6 months plus.
For those who are into modeling of plastic cars...any more info or links are appreciated. I know the do's and don't (like fogging the glass up with too much glue)...but the tools and small brushes and ultra fine nozzel for all the coats of paint...whew..I just got into a heap full doing this model. I left it at work...and I will post some pictures of the detail soon...a new link perhaps.
It is a fine one...Now if I can only find one this quality in a PIG240SX S13/89...that would rock. I am considering making the suspention actually work..it can be done..fine small machine work and springs...yep..time to go all out and have fun..
Whew!

I come to realize that I suck at making these things, well kinda. Just that I am too lazy to buy the good stuff, and I am impatient and sloppy. Really screwed up my first project, tipped over the bottle of red paint and it went all over the engine:eek: , so now the engine will go in like that, too lazy to fix, plus I don't have enough patience to carefully detail the engine.
Once I get money and I dont spend it on my car I will start buying some real tools and make a badass C-West FD.
I forget who on this board (possibly Bbandit) but they have a silvia s13 widebody.
There are some crazy ones out there, if you just search through automotive forums you'll see plenty (go to the modeling section). Search for the turbo integra. Took a regular ole revell ITR and put a turbo, bov, manifold, fmic, poping, and a few other things, all custom made.
And there was a silvia meet with all customized silvias, some real badass models.

I have built by hand and own design several flying plane models. Plastic kits take forever due to patience.
Each step you must thing 10 steps ahead...as it is done when you do it and it takes intense concentration.
Bad thing about buliding and flying R/C model airplanes. In the days of dough...you could invest as much as 8K in a plane and 2 years....to go up and have a blast and all of a sudden...it just goes into a tail spin and crashes at over 100MPH into a ball of wood particles, Monicoat and broken expensive electronics...because a damn beeper went off on your frequency. Now days, the bandwidth is more exclusive but still. The thought of a model doing 100 to 150MPH coming down is just terrable.
I still build and fly...but the R/C hobby is too expensive for my current lifestyle. When I had the money, I had a blast. Built a bunch of models...still have thew flying field..abiet...700 miles away.
You can spend 12G on a damn plane.
