My battery has 12 volts and then i took my voltmeter to my starter and it has 12 volts. But when I turn the key to the on position the starter has 8 volts and the battery has 12 volts. Car won't start. What's going on. It started yesterday.

are you checking the volts when you actually try to crank the car over at the starter?

and i would clean the lead wire and try again

You redid the wiring for your starter? And afterwards it wouldnt start? Then the wiring was done wrong one way or another, go through and double check everything.

Or are you talking about plug wires? If so then i dont think it would have anything to do with your starter.

I did everything the way it was before and I double checked. The positive wire from the battery goes to the starter then theres this thing atached to the battery that goes to the fuse box. then I grounded the black wire from the battery

Are you sure the grounds are good/clean?

Yea that's where I grounded it. And grounds look all good and snug. And there clean cuz the wire is brand new

U may just wanna get that starter tested. Although, when u tested the voltage at the starter, where were u holding the neg lead?

I head the lead on both the negative battery terminal and the black/yellow ignition wire on the starter. I get 12V now but still nothing.

Maybe its your ignition itself not sending signal to the starter when you turn the key?
friend had his s14 broken into, and they destroyed his ignition, now he has the worst starter problems ever.

Black/yellow? Hmm maybe mine are just dirty but there both black lol. The big or the small one? And I just realized u said 8v when in the on position. Did u mean that or in the start position? U need to check both wires though. The thick one should always have 12v and the small one should have 12v when the ignition is on start(try holding it on start for several seconds to make sure its a steady signal). Also test each two ways, with the neg lead on the battery neg, and with the neg lead on the starter body. This will tell u if ur starter is grounded well.
