Okay, i have an rb25 and i got an oem thermostat, only problem is it never opens when i put it on the motor. I put it in a pot to see if it works and it def. opens and works fine but still does not open when on the motor.

I just took it out for the time being and im running around 180 when cruisin without having fans on, and will normally turn fans on if cruising around in a low gear through side streets to keep the 180. The only downside is it takes a while to warm up and especially since it's getting so cold out.

Can someone show me a picture or tell me where the breather on the thermostat faces exactly. I put it so that little breather faces straight up.. is that right?

Thanks

Ya faceing up but make sure your putting it in the right direction.
A while back when i was maybe 10 my moms car started over heating so we took it to a shop and it still over heated so her boyfriend pulled the thermostat out and i was watching. We had the FSM and i was holding it and i noticed the thermo was in backwards. Some dumb ass shop put the thermo in backwards make sure your not doing the same.

the piece with the spring goes inside and the pointy part sticks out towards radiator hose

You need to bleed the air from the system, the air bubbles tend to end up behind the thermostat preventing it from opening initially. Once it opens then the air bubbles circulate and end up in the top of the radiator or heater core.

Okay, is there another way to bleed it besides squeezing the hoses

All I have usually done was pull the cap, start it and keep filling the rad. until it's to the top.

yeah i do that.. but my motor will get up to 210 without the thermostat opening .. the top of the radiator will be burning fucking hot and the lower half is cold as shit. The thermostat just won't open in there so i shut the motor off to prevent damage

Doesnt the thermo need to be opened before you can bleed the system?

I have only had to bleed my '96 chevy truck and 210 is Medium heat haha.

Also you could just pull the Thermo out, Run it to get it hot, Install Thermo, bleed system? worth a shot.

Boil the thermo till it opens then install it real quick like in the car before it closes then refill with already hot coolant as to not instantly close the thermo then bleed

yeah klits, i tried installing it with the thermo opened last time i put it in the pot, but it shut quick. I'm def going to try it again though fast, and than have some hot water ready to dump into the system right after.

I'll let ya know how it goes

thanks everybody
