- 1990 240SX Coupe 5-Speed Burgundy on Black Interior (No Sunroof BABY!!!):D
The car runs perfectly fine. Has an exhaust leak coming from manifold (we believe it's just the gasket). It has recent OE replacement shocks (one of them seems to be mounted incorrectly). Some other recent tune-up items, etc. Car runs very well and has 101,xxx miles. The clutch is what Im concerned about. When upshifting it functions just as well as any other properly working clutch, However, when downshifting (I only noticed from 3rd to 2nd) it makes a sound/feels like as if the car is dragging for example a corboard box underneath me. This I need help with figuring out.
Interior is near mint. Only damage is a dime size crack on the very top of driver side door panel near window.
Exterior is "mej", but decent for the price of this car. Spoiler has three paint chips about the size of a ruffles potato chip. Minor rust on rear fender well borders, more on rocker panels about 6" long and go from top to bottom, more rust on frontmost border of hood (like a 1" strip) and one more spot of rust on driverside window under the mirror.
The price... $1,200:boink: ... Pure Bling!:rawk:
Future plans: Do either one of the numerous swap options available which better suits my needs in April of '04, Silvia front end conversion (including full body rust work and full paint job) and umm... enjoy I guess.
Anything I should be worried about fellas?
I will own this car in an estimated 6 hours... *woot*

Make sure the exhaust leak isn't shooting hot gasses at anything that will burn, discolor, or melt.
I'd find a reliable mechanic friend and have them drive it and feel that cardboard "drag" thing you mentioned.

Bad sound when you depress the clutch or when you actually shift the gear? Synchro? Try double-clutching it imo. Even if the tranny is about to explode used KA trannies are cheap anyway. The rust would worry me but around here I've seen 240s with blown motors going for 1k as parts cars, so I'd say you're getting a great deal regardless. If it is a POS, you can recoupe the losses parting it out. Anyway, congrats!

 It's already at the shop!
But it's ok, It's just the slave cylinder...:boink:
I was supposed to buy the car at 5am indeed when the guy woke up to go to work but he called and we left it for later in the afternoon. Unfortunately that "cardboad" clutch deal left me on foot an hour after I purchased the car. I pull up to McDonalds for a large coke and right when I have to move to window #2 the shifter locked up and the clutch pedal sank all the way to the bottom. Pushed it to a parking spot, walked to the window, picked up my drink and called my mechanic buddy. He gets there 15 minutes later and says he's almost certain that it's only the slave cylinder that's depriving me from driving my new baby. We called the tow truck to transport the baby to his shop (one of the best in the city) where they will repair whatever the car needs in the morning for a very reasonable price. $55.00 and 20 minutes later the car is sitting at the shop waiting for some very needed care.
When I test drove the car both times and reviewed it I knew it would some help, but with the price at hand there was no way I was passing this up. It was either this very promising looking coupe or a $5,000 96 SE. All in all I'm a happy camper being one day away from driving excitement.
Dousan: Right On Brother! With Zilvia.nets help, This will be a very nice car within at least 6 months. Even though it's the dreaded burgundy...lol
mbmbmb23: The leak on the manifold is minor, however the valve cover gasket needs to go as well and in the morning the vehicle will be thoroughly inspected and diagnosed.
Pics will probably be next week. I will be going away over the weekend for some relaxation in the daytime/fun at night with friends to Indiana.
This is the just the beginning... Bwahahaha:boink:

Got the car back. :boink:
It was the slave cylinder indeed. Now the car at least runs. ;) My buddy sz the car needs:
- Valve Cover Gasket
- Exhaust Manifold Gasket (this is also missing one of the screws)
- One Rack & Pinion Boot
- Front Tie Rods
Those items plus a full tune-up and upgraded suspension/brakes and he says I should be worry free for a while.
Left the shop. Came home. Got to tuning. I did the following:
- Oil Change to Mobil Drive Clean 10w40w
- Denso Plugs on Bosch Wires
- New Cap & Rotor
- Fram Air Filter
Car feels better now but still desperately needing some work. I will be out of town until Monday afternoon & have less than $400 for the moment.
We can safely fix valve cover gasket & brakes, I have to ask if he can do tie rods himself and Im pretty sure I'll have to do the exhaust gasket/bolt & rack boot at his shop.
Wish me luck!
Any suggestions? Comments?

BTW... My biggest emergency lies below...
.
.
.
.
.
.
... My speedo/HUD dont work at all, the gauges backlighting dont work either and the fuel empty led stays on at all times. the rpm, temp and fuel needles are reliable however and before I forget, this is the biggest mystery with this car... If I redline all the way to max the car will stop revving until the needle drops back down to 3,000rpm. What's with that? It completely stops acceleration/revving until it hits 3k again and Im worried.

She's getting a fresh SOHC engine swapped in this week.
:D
Maybe I'll build the fresh SOHC up for a turbo.

hey beat, good news there! as I was reading the first post I said...throw out bearing is dragging due to a weak slave cylinder....(cool) but ...the rev limiter is getting a feedbsack condition because of the instrument problem IMO.
The circuit is a loop. The ECU presents a set of numbers to the instuments from the engine and the engine will not behave properly if the loop is damaged...the ecu is looking for RPM feedback from the gauge to set the limiter back up...and that is not happening. The default RPM is 22~26 hundred RPM for the reset to re-rev.
Replace the cluster or simply look for THE bad ground it has.
Replacing the tires on that ride will make it feel like brand new. Put some shoes on that bitch.
I am still waiting for the car carriers to bring my S-13 to me :( :( :(
