They fit with some trimming to the tensioner mount and I believe they are the same, or similar, amperage.

Why not just have the RB one rebuilt? most shops that do rebuilds will bump up the power for a few bucks more.

because if he's like me, the old single cam alt is sitting in the garage taking up space and it's free to mount up. maybe that's why he doesnt wanna rebuild it?

Alternators are not a big deal, JDM or otherwise. Chances are the RB20 one is used on something over here, like a toyota truck, or lexus, ect. They are simple, just get it rebuilt.

The alternator on a ka is the same shape angle and size as an rb 20
BUT IT WILL NOT FIT PROPERLY
The ends where the bolts go thru are too thick on a ka. There about twice as thick.
SOLUTION
1 rebuild the rb20 alternator(just tell them to give you yours back, they tried to give me a ka one. I made them go find my exaxct alt)
2 take the alternator shell apart and it bolts right up to the ka one brand new with new internals

none of this is true... i did mine and only had to modify the adjuster bracket...

^^^ actually it is. atleatst with my experience
i've been through the same deal. I tried using my KA alternator and the mounting tabs were too think and it wouldnt mount up to the engine block. it was off by maybe a few millimeters but none the less it would not fit.
so i just got the RB alternator rebuilt and it works beautiful.

Actually sir everything is 100 percent true. I have heard of doing a nissan quest alt bracket modified but I have no experience with it.
None the less everything I said is true tho for shizzle
