View Full Version : TODA cams OEM valvetrain okay?

I've been looking at the toda 272 duration / 10.5mm lift cams. The lift falls within acceptable spec for the OEM springs. Will I require upgraded valvesprings/retainers?

What does Toda say on their website?

The lift seems safe, but that doesn't always mean it's safe on the OE springs

Any particular reason you want to use the Toda cams vs the popular ones here?

Don't want to have to swap the valvetrain out and am looking for a more suitable cam for high end power

If you're looking for high end power you're not looking to use a stock turbo(they dont do anything in the high end but destroy the turbo.) That being said, if a turbo makes power up high you'll want to use the power up high. Also 270 duration cams are not made for small turbos. Springs and retainers are cheap and easy to do and are very good valvetrain insurance.

Even with the larger duration, without also taking advantage of the lift, you are really constraining yourself.

A 270* duration cam should realistically only be used with a GT3076, and or larger frame turbo to really make power...anything else and it's simply not the most efficicent at creating the best average powerband. (Where a 260 or a 264 would actually create much more torque, faster spool, etc etc)
