I was looking around at the places that made Carbon Fiber parts for the RB and was discoraged due to the very high prices. SO, I decided to cover mine in Carbon Fiber.

Started out with a regular RB25DET Spark plug cover and smoothed out the bolting locations for the ignitor due to mine being a S2, and covered it with black epoxy resin base coat. I then waited till it was dry to a tacky feel, but would not come off on my finger and then rapped it with the carbon pressing it down firmly to take shape.

After that I trimmed it and started the first layer of Clear Resin and am halfway done.

So far the cost is 30.00, not bad!!! I will layer up the second and maybe the thrid coat and post pics when its done.

Looks pretty good. Very good alternative to the high price of manufacturers and gives us DIY guys something to occupy our time with.

Thanks for the coments! I will cut the holes after all the resin is dry because it's easier to do it that way.

isnt it going to be too big if you just wrapped the stock one?

Thanks, and I bought a kit from eBay that included resin and a 24" X 50" sheet of carbon fiber cloth. I still have at least enough to make 2 more!!! OR cover the front timing cover!!!!:)

Well the stock 25 alley cover has sort of a rubber "grommet" that goes between the plastic and the valve covers. So I imagine this would take that space up once its gone.

Could you link us to the kit? I think this is awesome. Wouldn't mind doing mine.

Nope test fit it earlier, it's fine. It only goes to the edge were the cover ends, it does not wrap all the way around. Plus, the valve covers on the RB motors adjust a little due to them being separate!

2nd round of resin!!!

I might do one more just for good measure!

Also, if any one noticed I cut off the end piece at the back of the cover as well to help cool off the coils.

oh ok, that's not bad at all. I buy all my stuff separate, that's why i asked.
if you plan to make more stuff later, a 3'x60" roll of 5.7 2x2 twill is about $90 shipped.
Keep it up though, good luck with the rest.

I think it will be fine, carbon fiber and the epoxy are rated at pretty high temps and are made by other manufactures like GREDDY, HKS, APEXI, ect.
