Crimps for a deck or lights are okay cause they're not that important nor complicated. But if you are talking about something like wiring for the engine, then you definitely use solder and black tape.

Anyone with a semi steady hand and a little know-how can solder. Knowledge, practice, and experience just make your solder jobs more professional and reliable .
Soldering the harness is the way to go. Though use heat-shrink instead of electrical tape if you can, it looks better,is more durable, and best of all wont unwrap on you and risk shorting out wires.
I found a fairly good site that someone made to explain basic soldering for RC cars I think but it's application is universal the site is here (http://www.teamnovak.com/How_to/How_To_Solder/solder.htm)
Read through that write up and get yourself some extra wire and practice if you want to improve.
Good Luck

Oh right, heat shrink, forgot about that. There's another solution. Have someone that has excellent skills in soldering to help you do it. When I need to solder something I always just ask my brother to do it cause I suck at soldering.

oh dear god, please DO NOT crimp your harness.. BAD BAD IDEA. Asking for trouble.
twist the wires together, use solder gun (not iron/pen), heat the WIRE, not the solder and then soak the wire in solder. tape over it twice, then heatwrap/loom and tape again.
done and done. does not require steady hand or mad solder skills.
good luck

you mean tape over it w/ electrical tape, or was that a different term?
thanks all for your help!!

Why ghetto rig something when it can be done right!
Look at this site and get the connectors.
Molex connectors.
www.molex.com
Do wire to wire connectors...
Each wire fits inside a connector and is connected and you make the female and male plugs. Easy, not expensive. Call them and describe all your connections, they will send out what you need. Cost less than 50 bucks to do it right. I use molex connectors all the time. Bullett proof.

If you want to make soldering easy get some flux. I like the gooey kind best personally but the liquid kind works ok too.
What it does is prevent oxidation. You put it on the wires and then get a bead of solder on the iron, put it on the wire and it will litterally jump off the iron on the wire and coat it. It makes it real easy. You just coat the two wires you want to connect, put them together and melt the solder to join them. With the flux the solder will stay on the wire. Then use heat shrink tubing to insulate the joint.
This isn't the officially correct way to solder, but it's easy and much better then crimp connectors.
You can also join the wires first, then put the flux on and then the solder. Which ever way is easiest.
