View Full Version : Very Weird Intake Conclusion...Pantyhose?

Well I've been fighting a hesitation & misfire into that randomly happened on my S14 with SR20det swap. I was using a 9" AEM cone air filter, for shits & giggles I removed it and use a set of pantyhose and it cleared it up and the car ran absolutely perfect.

Just for fun I slapped a small 2" Specter filter on and the hesitation came back, then just for laughs tried a sock. The hesitation faded, but was still there a little bit. Tried an open intake and it was the worst, just pretty much complete misfire at WOT.

I thought maybe the MAF sensor was getting weak, so I cleaned it and nothing changed. Swapped to another sensor and nothing changed... What does this all mean and why does my car run best when using $1.00 Aunt Jemima panty hose?!

That's not the same as my problem, but goodluck. Like I said the car runs absolutely perfect with the pantyhose :wtf:

It has to do with how the MAF sensor reads the airflow. You need straight sections of pipe on both sides of the MAF.

Clean the filter and the maf, and after, reset the ecu, unplugging the battery wires for 24 hours. Before that run below 4000 rpm until engine warms.

Both air filters I tested were brand new, the MAF has also been cleaned out prior to installing it. Is there an easier way to reset the ecu? I can't have a non-running car for that long.

As someone stated before about having straight sections of piping, I do not have that. I have an aluminum intake tube coming off the turbo, going to the MAF and then the filter directly mounted on the MAF.

Unplug the wires and try to start the engine or use something who needs battery supply, like horns, audio... and wait for some hours (4-5 hours) and the try again. Or before go to sleep, unplug the battery wires and plug in the wires next morning.

That's the only way that I know to reset the ecu.
