Before I begin my inquiry, YES i'm a newbie to this site. With that said, let's get to the point!!

Long story short, this guy's got a 1973? ( early 70's for sure ) Mercury Marquis Brougham up for grabs for about $350 and I want that 7.5 liter engine inside my 94' 240sx. I've been told various positives/ negatives about this, but I want to hear some of your opinions on it. Thanks!!

I also understand that newbies have to go through the rights of passage (being flamed), but honestly, does it REALLY make you a better person?:mrmeph:

get stiff as fuck coils inthe front like crazy spring rates.

that motor will be heavy as fuck and it will throw off ur weight distribution

Yeah, not an ideal swap by any means. Its a big, heavy, inefficient, outdated motor. You could make the same power with a better, lighter, newer motor. Granted, not for $350.. but its gonna take a lot to get that motor in and running as opposed to something thats been done before. If your goal is to be different, and do something off the beaten path, then go for it. But if your goal is big horsepower for little money, your best bang for buck is going to be KA-T.

you will spend a lot on distributing the weight and also the mounts. The wiring wont be that hard because its a old outdated motor like ^he said. B ut honestlydude do what you feel like doing. Be unique maybe you can build this thing into a badass car and set a example. GOOD LUCK

Thanks for all the info & you've said it all! I live by a college campus and almost every "240" driving around would make you guys cringe... have you ever seen a 240 with 24 INCH RIMS?!??!?!

FYI, LS1/LT1 is amazing, but it's all been done before. I'm trying to raise the standards to the "not to be fucked with" bar.

It weighs 760lbs vs 370lbs for the KA that is in there now.
Pre 1973, horsepower was rated at 365. After 1972 horsepower ranged from 208 to 275.

Buy it for $350 and sell it for $600. You are going to spend more time and money then swapping in a modern engine.

^ you learn something new everyday, & yeah, it's a 1972. One more question, then i'm done! My goal was to buy it, rebuild it, then swap it in. With basic bolt ons, I know the engine could work wonders, but there would be no way of compensating for the weight issue?

So far, you guys rock.:cops:

I'm swapping a vh into my 94 vert. I'd say ls1/lt1 as well, great choice for a swap. You could always build the ka and boost it as well.

How's it going for you? I'd go with a LS1/LT1, but (once again) it's too common around my area thanks to the local college kids. Thinking about going with a nissan v8 if this whole 460 thing flops... & yeah , but if i get a KA, then i'm gonna wish I had an sr20 whenever i'm driving it!!

I wouldn't use a Smog Big block as an anchor, let alone a powerplant

Not only will it not fit, but how on earth are you going to stick a transmission under the car without modifying the tunnel? Not to mention hood/pan issues once you figure out how to get it between teh shock towers.

Don't waste your time. May as well sell your 240 and get a Fox to swap it into, at least it's straightforward and easy. And even then, you're gonna need to get a set of heads/intake/cam/carb for it all.

Cliffs: An LS1 makes as much power and torque, is half the weight, and is much easier to swap.

My build is going pretty slow but it's all good. I'm getting the z32 trans machined by mazworx with the adapter plate and my bro and I are going to fab up mounts and everything else (he's swapping a vh into his hatch).
