Just wanted to share this S14 KA-T project put together for a fellow Zilvian "Koukidrifter240 (http://zilvia.net/f/members/koukidrifter240.html)". The setup uses the turbo system from an S13 SR20DET. Car made an excellent power of 208whp @ 6.25psi only. It would have been nice if the stock actuator was able to hold 10psi all way. HKS actuator will be installed soon to replace the stock actuator. All tuning done by Chris @ DC Performance. To Zilvian KA-T owners running similar turbo setup. How much HP have you been able to put down. Keyword KA24DE, T25, SMIC and stock Maf. Thanks and enjoy the pics!!

Some basic info on the setup;
- OE Rebuilt KA24DE
- SR 370cc Injectors
- SR Side Mount Intercooler Setup
- SR T25 Turbocharger
- Stock S14 MAF
- ISIS V2 KA24DE Turbo Manifold
- Megan Racing Turbo Manifold
- Nistune Modded 95 240sx ECU
- XTD Stage 3 Clutch
- Autometer Boost Gauge

Below are some pics of the project.

Where did you get your high pressure oil from? Was it direct bolt on for the line? or did you have to tap it? Same question for the oil return. Im doing a similiar setup on my gfs s14

That turbo is too small... :D

To Zilvian KA-T owners running similar turbo setup. How much HP have you been able to put down.

224rwhp at 5.8psi...non-intercooled, T3/T04E 57-trim.

I know, not a "similar turbo setup"...but it illustrates my point: That turbo is too small.

I'm just busting your balls here...nice work, very clean.

But tell the owner to try a straight T3...similar spool, massive TQ, much better top end.

How much did this setup cost?

Makes me want to turbo my KA. I have 192k on my KA and it's still running strong, but a rebuild is probably still recommended right?

Also, how reliable is this? Can I drive it to a track event, drift the crap out of it, drive back home, without worrying?

VIPDRFT
12-03-2010, 01:58 PM
Whatever issues you might have with the KA already (high idle, vacuum leaks, oil leaks, valve tick, ignition or fuel issues, over heating etc...) will only get worse once turbo. If you don't have any issues I say go for it.

As far as reliability, that's very low boost and the KA should be able to handle it easily with a good tune.

Plenty on eBay and you will need a T fitting from the oil sender. You will need to place a bung on the oil pan and have a fitting for the return hose. Please make sure you verify your bung placement so that it will clear AC, Oil pan bolt and you want this as high as possible.

ISIS by far is the best I of other ebay manifolds you can buy. Fitment was really good.

The idea is to look stock as possible for this setup. Sure the T3/T4 50 trim is the best all around street spec for KA24 but considering stealth and cost bottom mount T2 setup is the best option to have just a little bit of HP especially if in the state of CALIFORNIA. I've have a Garrett 60-1 turbo for my personal setup and that for me was small I'm rocking a Holset H1E now which is a similar to the spec of a Garrett GT40

Do you have pics of how you routed the coolant lines for the turbo? Thanks.

I don't run coolant lines on the T25 since its a Journal bearing anyways.

Exactly the setup i want to run for my daily. But im just not sure about buying the sr smic setup....Is it easy to adapt for the KA? Does it fit well inside the bumper without any cosmetically noticeable cutting? And here comes the idiot noob question, where is your bov? On the cooler itself down there? Looks great though, excellent job!

Edit: Why does the graph show peak Tq at just above 220 but only reads a max of 200.47 on the side print out part?
And what kind of dyno was this? DD im guessing, maybe mustang?

Cool! I thought you had to run coolant lines with a bottom mount SR T25 setup. Did you have to plug coolant inlet/outlet on the turbo?

It will need some cutting and some playing with the mounts but it can be made to look like it belongs there. BOV is the back of the IC core which is the stock SR location. Peak TQ was @ 4250 rpm and TQ numbers on the side shows TQ at the time of peak HP. This was on the a DynaPack Dyno

It's preffered that you run coolant lines if the turbo has has the ports for it. If you have a BB turbo then thats a must. Journal bearing is not as much for me as long a you give the turbo proper cool down time after hard driving. No plugs on the turbo it was left open.

nice work, i just took the t25 setup i had off to upgrade. but the power diffidently didnt feel like 200+ hp, and i was pushing 14 lbs boost. but i never went to the dyno, so cant prove it. I only had like 2000 into my kit, and thats running a front mount. I just sold it for less than a 1000. you guys just missed out on it.

You have no idea how much time and detail I put to get all my turbo setups together. There are several aftermarket parts, tuning/dyno services added to the basic setup and other parts needs to be considered being its an S14 Kouki to amount the cost which is just 2650. I have actually stop accepting projects for others at the moment as family and my main work doesn't really add up to be worth spending my extra time. I'll be glad to send you the full scope of work and parts list on this build with some referrals if you feel like you can do the same if not better. PM your contact info if your interested!

This is actually my next build for my coupe.. I will be using the same specs but with a custom KA turbo manifold using the SR stock manifold with KA flanges and SR heatshield. I will also have the SR airbox to make everything totally a sleeper setup. This will be coming up soon while the longlbock is being prep for boost.

Expect between 190-220whp depending which dyno you use. Your HP limitation at those numbers are your turbo and injectors.

Awesome build, reading it as I drink my sam adams! I'm going the same route on my s14. I'm saving up for an rb swap, hopefully in about a year or so, but since I can't wait for boost I'm throwing a budget setup on my current ka for now. Ran a compression test on my ka a few days ago and it was around 180 across, pretty good for a 130k ka. Setup will consist of sr t25, s13 smic n piping, dsm bov resirculated, egay bottom mount mani, 370cc's, n60 maf, aem uego, stock elbows, egay dp and exhaust, still debating on the tune. U'll be surprice at the deals u can find when u look in the right places and if u do all the work on urself u save on the most expensive area, the labor. Great inspiration here man, thanks. Hopefully I don't blow/damage my engine 'cause my other s14 is already waiting for that ka after I get the rb :D ...does anyone know if there are any usdm air filter boxes out there that fit on the s-chassis and point the maf towards the exhaust? I know its a long shot but screw it!

i actually just finished my small turbo build and only spent about 800 overall on parts including tune, over the coarse of the last year just collecting deals.
my setup now is:
-no name bottom mount manifold
-t25 turbo
-ebay oil feed line plate with bango connection for the turbo (easier to use in my opinion)
-circuit sport 3" downpipe
-s13 sr smic with bov
-370cc injectors
-stock maf
-e-mance tune
-3" megan racing catback with megan test pipe
and honestly, car runs really smooth, no CEL, and pulls really hard. i love it.
heres a pic, not the cleanest but works

This car had an RB with a mid mount a few years ago so i used the holes next to the radiator to make the shortest charge piping possible with a front mount. It's about 20" longer than my mid mount on my SR.

I added it up and figured I would have paid just under $800 for all the stuff I have, but I traded some and got some for way cheaper than i should have.

This pulls hard while my SR (11psi, T25) is spooling up and seems about even at the high end.

s14 ones have the hot pipe coming in from the side to match the cut-out already in the car.
s13 ones have both the hot and cold pipes coming from the top that you need to cut.
I looked into swapping the smic elbows to match but that was years ago and can't remember the results
maybe someone else can chime in.

^ Don't forget about the throttle body inlet orientation. The great thing about the S13 is that its similar to the KA's; the s14's aims a bit more down so I would assume that the cold pipe might be awkward to connect.

I did this setup back in 05 and loved it. Simple, cheap, efficient and honestly what Nissan should have done; lol. Props on the results.

I saw 209rwhp and 242rwtq @ 7psi

Anyone in here using a S15 Core or Baller enough to have a ARC, Blitz or Greddy/Trust SMIC Core?

This is pretty cool. But dang I feel like 3k is WAY to much especially with all stock parts. He should've just done the work himself, instead of getting raped in labor costs. Installing a turbo really isn't that difficult imo

It was rebuilt also. If you take that into account, with parts, it all falls together. With the tune also.
