im asking because long story short, I cracked the turbo oil feed bung on my block. my plan for fixing it involves tig welding the crack and also welding on a new bung for AN lines. Ive sheached to the best of my abilities and have turned up nothing relative to me. If anybody knows if thier is zinc in the blocks alloy please help?

I can't speak as to the zinc content of the block, but I have personally had an Earl's weld on NPT bung welded to the block. I have not pressure tested it yet but the welder said it welded on nicely.

It has less then 2% zinc. Not really an issue.

Are you worried about metal poisoning from zinc, or just not a good weld?
I did alot of welds on the intake manifold which has zinc in it. What I would do is start a pool and put some rod into it. After I got a decent size bead/weld I'd file it all the way down/off again. Then I'd lay the same bead again and it was alot better.
My instructor told me to do this, as the first weld is contaminated with zinc, but then you file all that away, and the 2nd weld is much more clean. I could tell it worked by the color and the way the 2nd pool would flow compared to the first pool that had zinc in it.
So I'd do a bead around the whole where the fitting came off, then file that down, then put the fitting on and do another bead.

Good post. I played with welding aluminum here and there (it's not my forte at all) and it usually turned out pretty shitty, even billet 6000 and 7000 series. I just couldn't make it happen. I'll have to try that next time i have access to an ac setup.
