View Full Version : How To Tell If ECU Is Bad?

Is there a simple way to test my ECU? I'm pretty sure I fried mine while rewiring my MAF sensor, but would like to be positive before I purchase a new one.
So far the symptoms are:
Cranks, but doesn't start.
No pressure to fuel rail.
No light on ecu at all.
Is this enough to conclude that the ecu is toast? And if so I'm looking for a #62 ecu (PM me)

did you hit it? like pick it up...hit it a few times...may rattle whatever is loose.
orrrr....you can ask a buddy to plug his into yours, and if it runs, you'll know.

Well the buddy I asked said I wasn't allowed to use his to test my car....asshole
Anyways I replaced it, the ECU was bad. For future reference, the light doesn't come on when you turn the key to the "on" position.

I am havinga issue with mine as well, it i a #62 redtop ecu.
engine cranks but will not start
Have fuel to rail
Have spark
Ecu does not smell burned. I opened the cover and all the solder joints look good
The light was giving code 55 .. no maulfuction
But now it will not even give that code
The light on the ecu stays on constantly unless I turn the screw all the way to the right (clockwise)
I wish I could figure it out with out buying a ignitor chip and ecu
Any suggestions/ideas
