Hey how's it goin' guys.

The hood latch on my car doesn't work all of a sudden. I'll pull on the release in the car, and i won't get the usual resistance. I do hear a noise in the latch area, and it seems as if the cable is still connected to something up there. I tried pulling the release while a friend pushed down and pulled up on the hood, but we still couldn't get it open.

I pretty much need to break into my own car's engine bay.

Not a thief I promise, haha.

Any ideas, guys?

edit: the release doesn't spring back like it normally does, and I can tell that the hood is still sprung.

edit': This is an S13 hatchback.

if he's still hearing a noise up front the cable wouldn't be broken.

The hood on my s13 had the similar thing happen to it. Instead of pushing down on the hood try pulling up on it. I found the best place to put my fingers were right by the headlight and then i pulled up on the hood..After a month or so i finally got tired of having to do this every time i opened my hood, so i sprayed the shit outta the latch with PB Blaster, scrub it with a tooth brush, and pulled on the latch a few times. Now my hood opens like new.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that this is in a S13.

The handle is pulling the cable, and I can hear something move near the latch. How could the cable be broken?

How can i open my hood without using that cable or breaking anything?

Instead of pushing down on the hood try pulling up on it.

We did try pulling up on it and it was most definitely still secured.

you're a dip shit....you ask for help and then you act like a douche..i had the same shit happen to my hood, and when i pulled on the hood pop and pushed it back in(instead of just letting it go) it popped my hood open.

i hope you have to cut your f*cking hood open..

So i took a better look at it and I've found that the cable isn't broken. The cable coming from the hood release has become disconnected from the hood latch. How can I get the hood to pop up without breaking anything?

I guess it would be the same as if the cable was broken, seeing as it's not attache to the latch. How would you guys get the hood open if the cable was broken?

edit: searching again, as well as sileighty_85 say that i should try to unbolt the latch, so i'm giving that shot.

if the cable shielding mount is broken then just pull on the whole cable itself
