Doesnt power steering fluid eat through heater hose. My friend told me to use heater hose for my power steering line to the pump but I would hate for it to fail. Its a small dumb question but i'd like to know.

it depends what fluid you are using for the hose... some fluid eats the hose

If your getting hose from an auto parts store, it most likely is rated for fuel as well. You'll be safe to use it.

Yeah most auto parts stores will ask you what your going to the hose on and then usually they will give you what you need. But most of the time the hose will be marked on the side what its for just make sure they don't give you vacuum line and you should be ok.

also consider that power steering lines, along with other system lines, are designed to hold pressure, so it really isnt about the fluid eating through the material but rather the maintenance of constant pressure.

dont use heater hose. The hose kinks easy and the fluid slowly seeps out of the hose making a mess.

if you go to your local automotive store and ask for a "Hydraulic Line/Hose" they will be able to give you something based on your requested dimensions. This is your best/safest bet. Yes, you might be able to use some heater hose line, but getting real hydraulic hose will be your best answer.

...and keep in mind, Nissan's don't use regular (clear) PS fluid. It's ATF (Dex/Merc III) that is used in the power steering system.
Just so you get the right hose, for sure.

Thank you Brian. I was wondering if anyone was smart enough to realize no matter what type of hose the kid uses, he's using the wrong fluid anyway.

...notice how I said hydraulic hose...I forget that it is not common knowledge, somehow, to put ATF in your ps system on your s-chassis.
