So there is this 89 240sx for sale in my town. All stock, 122xxx miles, automatic, guy says alternator, water pump, thermostat, battery, rear brakes and tires all have less then 4000 miles on them, but it was hit in the rear quarter panel. Now, the damage doesn't look bad at all, doesn't look like it did ANY frame damage, and the kid is leaving for the military soon so I might be able to lowball him and get it for cheap.
Long story short, he's asking $1600. I'm not looking for something to get crazy on (I already have 2 other vehicles for that), but I have always loved 240s and was just wondering if this seemed like a good deal, and then if I did buy it would it be an alright platform to work up from, or should I just wait and see if I can get a good deal on an s14 or something newer?

1989 Nissan 240sx - $1600 (Billings)

89 240sx automatic transmission. 122xxx. AC/Heater. Runs perfectly. I've had the car for a few years and I've replaced the muffler with a cherry bomb exhaust system. Replaced the alternator, water pump, thermostat, battery, rear brakes and tires ive got have less then 4000 miles on them. Recently had some cosmetic damage done to it (got hit by a jeep) and the rear left quarter panel is dented in, shouldnt be to much to fix though. Selling because I'm leaving for the military soon so $1600obo!
Call/text Dan 406-697-3060. I'll even throw in a set of studed snow tires with her!

You do not want to deal with quarter panel damage, trust me. I've had 3 240's all with quarter panel damage (though I didn't cause it on any of them lololol) and its just a pain to fix in general. Either you can fix it cheaply and shittily, or right and expensively, trust me.

Very true... Aside from the quarter panel damage though it looks like a pretty clean car. I think if you could get him down to around $1200 on it that would be a pretty good deal. Also check to see if he has paper work for all of the maintenance that was just performed and run a Carfax on the car too. My first 240 that I bought supposedly only had 108,000 miles on the dash but when I checked it out on Carfax a month later it turned out to have 350,000 on it, but the shell was clean and I got it for $700 :bigok:.

I was actually thinking that since he is leaving he may take pretty much any cash offer, but I wasn't going to pay any more than $1200 anyways. I was hoping to flash a grand in front of him and have him jump on it. (I've gotten more than one great deal by carrying a little cash with me ;) )

I agree with cardoza. Quarter damage is a bitch to fix, so $1200 sounds reasonable considering the repairs.

You can find a better deal if your patient. I got the 97 Kouki in my sig for $400. It had quarterpanel damage, but was worth the 4 bills to fix it. This 97 is the 5th 240sx that I have bought for $500 or less.
