View Full Version : Bolting seats to the floor

I'm going to buy some sparco Evo's for my s14...However, I'm really tall, and want to bolt the seats directly to my floor so that the seats are touching the floor Or as close to the floor as I can get them. How would I do this? would I have to custom fabricate some mounts? I would like to avoid making more hole in my floorboard. Or, will this not work and will I just have to start drilling holes through my floorboard?
Oh, you may say, 'nah, don't waist your time, just buy some Bride seat rails.' I Would do this, but i'm really tall (just a quarter of an inch under 6'4") and want to autocross my car. With my height, the added height of my helmet, and the inch of headroom my sunroof takes out...I need all the added room I can get.
I'm not worried about adjustability either. I'm the only person who will be driving my car. I will just find a comfortable seating position for both cruising and racing.
Peace
-Mike
Dousan...I'm hoping you can shed some light on this subject, as you seem to be the Seat Master, but I would like input from everyone else as well. Thanks.

Here is what has worked for me in my s14;
The wedge engeneering bracket, and then drill holes in it for the bolts through to the seat. Pretty easy.
But if your that tall I think it would be easier to cut a hole in the roof of your car.

Do you think you could post some pics of your set-up SpeedMonkeyInc? They would be really helpful. How much lower do your seats sit than stock and what seats are you using?

I will be posting pics of my setup soon. Maybe in the next week or two.
I have the Sparco Ultra, a fiberglass shell. Mounting the seat directly to the bracket still raised the seating position about a quarter of an inch unfortunatly. I will not have trouble getting my helmet on, and I can just barely notice that it is higher. I think it is higher because of the fact that the seat is fiberglass. its quite thick on the bottom. I think that maybe a steel frame or a carbon/kevlar bucket would be thinner, just guessing though.
I have sat in a Sparco Speed ( steel frame ) and a Bride Zetta something or other and both felt lower. They where both comfortable seats, but the Bride was too tight. I am only 6' and about 170lbs, so the bride is kinda small.
