View Full Version : Turn Signals Wont Work (S13)

Here's what's going on.

My turn signals do not work, not even an audible click when engaged.
All other exterior lights work and function properly.
All bulbs replaced and working.
Hazards work and show up on cluster as well, but only the rear lights turn on, no fronts.
Fuse checked and replaced.

Just bought a new turn signal relay, but Im not sure where the funk this goes. People say its over the brake pedal under the steering column, and I see two black switch-thingies (sorry for the lack of lingo). Is it the one on the right or left?

Any other possibilities as to why this might happen? Am I missing something along the lines of my trouble shooting?

Also, clock light is on, but no numbers appear, not sure if this is related.

the relay looks like this

Says 12.8V Electronic Flasher.

I hope I purchased the right thing cause I cant seem to find where this relay goes.

Okay so i finally found the relay (just listened for the hazard clicking and followed it). Replaced it, still no turn signals. At this point I really don't know what to do.

check your actual wiring coming from the blinker/high beam controller

shouldnt that also effect the high beam and headlights? those work fine.

Check the fuse. I know you said that you checked it already, but the hazard switch and turn signal switch are on different circuits and have their own fuses. You may have checked the switch for the hazard button circuit. If the fuse is ok, take apart the switch and check the contacts. Corrosion often builds up on the contacts and makes it stop working.

i checked the fuse 3rd from the bottom on the left side. 10A I believe. Thats the turn signal fuse. Hell. I even went and checked the rest of the fuses and they were all fine.

Could it possibly have to do with the fact that I uninstalled the ghetto fog lights that came with the car? There is a loose blue and white wire that isnt connected to anything under the airbox by the relay box. I cant remember if that was connected to the ghetto rigged foglight set up that i tore out though.

This is driving me crazy. I checked the switch itself, no corrosion. I even borrowed a friends working switch. No luck.

Also, Hazards are not working in the front, but work in the rear fine.

Also, I can't seem to find where in the FSM (im using the pdf online version) I can find the wiring diagram or section involving the turn signals, because the best advice I am getting here on the forum is to grab the FSM and follow the wiring.

yes maybe but they all have different wires. i mean when it comes to body electrical there could be a short anywhere between the switch or fuse or relay or blinkers that make them not work. you really need to follow the entire path. like check the wires coming from the fuse box too.

take a volt meter and check if there is power going through.

that should give you a easy get go.

if you get 0 you know theres a cut somewhere.

if you get 12. check for the socket on the turn signals.

So I changed out the TCU, and now Im FINALLY getting some blinker action, but its still not good enough. They blink very very fast, both sides on rear. No blinking action up front though.

if you have led bulb turn signals then you need a resistor.

since led uses less.

i have a pair if you want let me know.

blinking fast usually means a bulb is blown out, take the front bulbs out and check the sockets for corrosion, like 240sxftww said too

its not the bulbs as the front right light still turns on with the head/parking lights, but it just doesnt blink.

yes. i replaced every single fuse, (turns out I had a 15 where a 10 should go)--ALSO, my audio headunit was installed funky (bought car like that) and kept shorting out my tail lamp fuse and other components. ALSO, my right turn signal component was messed up (only had two wires [one must have fell off] where there should be three)

everything works perfectly now.
