View Full Version : quick run away
yes...i am a newbie....yeah well since this is my first time posting on these boards (just finding them) ill introduce myself a little
im 18 got a 89 fastback 240sx about a year ago. to tell a long story short i had no idea what i was doing when buying the car and i have spent the last year spending money on just making it run.
well it runs now..lol and im wondering whats next? im redoing the interior to make it look nice but to tell you the truth after i do that...i have no idea where to start on actually making the car more powerful.
When i say im a newbie i really am a newbie. I have looked through some threads and people say go for suspenion or what ever first? me being the newbie i am..i dont really know much about that.
i know my car is lowered because i have looked at other 240sx and there a little higher....is that the suspenion? hmm i guess im just kinda confused on where im at and where i need to start.
my mom went to "les shwab" and she said put nice rims and stuff on the car as a present....well now i got 17inch rims on it and "performance tires" on it i guess.
im rambaling...(i do that alot) so if anyones out there that wants to give me advice im wide open for some lol

actually it looks like hes already searched some, so hes on the right track, but your mods should depend on what you want to do with your car, do you want to get into auto-x or dragging... or just somethin of the mix for the street?

check out the automotive section of howstuffworks.com
That will give you a good base on understanding all the mechanical things that make a car work.. then you can think about upgrading.
I mean, how do you upgrade if you don't know what makes "part a" better than "part b"

That is a great website, I find myself going there once in a while just to learn something, anything, new.
Go there and go buy some books on automotive components (engine basics, steering & suspension, brake systems, ect.) If you do plan on fixing the car up go get yourself a shop manual for your car.
Good luck:)

u dont know anything.
juss stick around here for a while and ull pick up stuff. either here or FreshAlloy.com two of the best forums i know.
EDIT: yea i juss read ur first post..and damn u are new haha! its all good tho..thats how everybody was to an extent. yes lowering ur car is suspension..
first things first...u have to ask ur question this "what would i like to do with my car...drag race? drifting? grip race? road race? autoX?" etc etc..ask ur questions and FIND out what u really wanna do before u start building ur car.
take for example. if ur gonna build it up for drag racing..u might not focus on ur suspension as much..mayb juss lower it and shocks and bam ur set. whereas if ur into drifting/autoX yea u might wanna focus on ur suspension more...power wouldnt hurt either.
so yea..find out wat u want first before u start to build.

Yea howstuffworks is off the hizzle. Thats where i started, and I now have a strong knowledge of engines, and all the fun things to go with em. When your done learning about the engine, use their Turbo howstuffworks to figure out forced induction and what not....its ggggreat
I need to get a new car....mine sucks.
Lurk around and read, you will get the jist of it. I walked into this forum knowing nothing of the s-chassis cars and now I can talk forever.... which i usually do...and stuff
