Any chance of this getting fixed or is it totaled?

http://i52.tinypic.com/8vtag0.jpg

Car can move on it's own. Engine and everything works perfect. Damage only to fender, door, and I think axle since the wheel is crooked.

Opinions?

FYI this is 3 days after buying it :\. My luck huh.

it doesn't look TOO bad, the insurance will probably total it out, it's up to you, is the a pillar straight? strut tower pushed a little? how's the rocker panel/under car?

SilviaSalvia

Didn't check that stuff. It doesn't look too bad when I looked around it. I'll have to see from my mechanic about exactly what's wrong with it.

insurance will def. total it. see how much it is to buy it back when they do. then try to find a rolling chassis to transfer to. or just start fresh.

i mean, it's fixable, doesn't look that bad.

better off getting a new chassis. Why deal something that could have unknown defective parts, bends and warpage in the chassis, and a salvage title

New door and fender..looks like lower control arm mite to need to be changed inter and outer tierod to be safe..and have back on the road..dosent look bad at all..I would fix it... if u get lucky u can have back up with 400 bills or less

Yeah it is fixable but just make sure to take the door off, take off the hood, fender, front bumper and have it put on a frame straightening rack and as long as they can get it back to spec you're good to go as far as chassis.

I think that is a total for sure, my buddy's s14 got hit and he got lucky, it was about $200 short from being totaled, broken suspension parts, bent coilover, body damage and bent wheel

here's a pic of his
http://i55.tinypic.com/33djr4h.jpg

good luck with your car, id get a new chassis and transfer parts.

Is it hard to find a 95 shell?

aznpoopy
09-14-2010, 03:26 PM
yes and no. harder now than before anyway.

pull off the fender at least and take a quick look. that doesn't look bad at all.

if it's all straight, it will be as simple as slapping on a new fender and door.

anything is fix able

but if you've only had it for three days,.. u aint missin' nothin

take the money and start over

(this,. only if you damaged anything other then a couple random suspension pieces and a fender)

Looks like its going to be declared totaled but buy it back and if you attempt to fix and doesn't work out, either part it out or getting a new chasis like everyone else said wouldn't be a bad idea. I just hit a deer not to long ago, cracked my radiator, hood, drivers fender, headlight and cornerlight, all done. Also, bent rad support a good 1" back but got lucky nothing kinked, so pulled out the come along and hours of trial and error and you couldn't even tell I hit one besides my green fender lolol. Sucked cuz I didn't have full coverage but hands down usaa woulda declared it totaled.

Im a collision repair tech., the car will total mainly cause its a old nissan that holds no real value to the insurance company. As said "buy it back" and get the repairs done, its a really easy fix, the cars not hurt bad. At the right shop thatll be a 2200 or less fix which isnt bad in materials and labor.

SilviaSalvia
09-14-2010, 10:11 PM
Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna buy it back and save up money to fix it. tryangle, are you assuming that price if theres something wrong with the chassis or is that price if theres nothing wrong with the chassis?

Great Advice dude!!! BRAVO!!!

Don't listen to him, it doesn't look that bad. Just check that the frame isn't bent, its fixable trust me, my S14 got hit in the driver side quarter panel and the rear arms were bent, I just replaced the arms and it was good as new. All you need is a fender which should run you about 50-70 bucks, and some arms to get your wheel straight. Its not totally fucked you can still save it....Good luck with insurance they are gonna be bitches and offer you like 1,500 the most for it, fight for moar moneys!!!!

This??? Seriously asking...

Yup, S14s are throw away bodies...just find another one so we can keep jacking up the prices on them. There were more 95 240sx produced than there were Honda Civics.

You guys think it's a good idea to just put it under a salvage title and fixing it?

I want to get a 240sx back in my hands asap

Have em total it, buy it back with your settlement then keep it for a track car and buy a fun DD

You have to understand I don't make crazy money to have more than one car.

I feel u man. I got into an accident with my 98 240sx LE, original kouki and I felt like shit afterwards. Honestly though yours doesn't look that bad, just keep it as a daily driver and when you get more money later on in life, buy yourself something nicer to drive

SilviaSalvia

I got 3800 if I keep the car and 4200 if I let them keep it. I kept it and have been weighing the option of fixing it for some odd thousands or just starting fresh on a different s14. I'm pretty sure I'm just parting out and taking the 3800 + partout $ and buying another one.

Take the 3.8k and part it out. There's plenty out there. It's not like they're not ridiculously rare to find...

...unless you want a '98.

Are you serious?! That's not even worth it! He can find a 14 shell for 1k if he takes his time. Then just swap everything over and part out the rest.

keep it and go to a chiropractor and get more money.

Yes Im serious, I could have that back on the road in 5-8hours looking fresh, if you would like to spend your weekend swapping to another chassis and still have old paint be my guest.

I'm a 17 year old fresh college student with not a lot of income flowing in until summer. I don't really have the time or the money to fuck around fixing it and dealing with a salvage title and not knowing if other shit might be damaged.

Picture doesn't show how deep the hit really is. There's frame damage because the window is cracked on the bottom left near where it was hit. Not exactly worth it to fix it considering I got a quote for around $3000. I'd rather start fresh.

well with that info looks like your better getting a new shell. this is very bad thing to happen but it happens.

you got 3800 for it? thats pretty good.. what mods were done? engine? suspension ? my advice to you is to get rid of it.. dont listen to these guys that would sell their mom for coilovers, lol.. you are young, dont spend your time and cash into a car that wont be the same again.. you can find another one, the car is not worth it.. how much did you pay for it? if you have good aftermarket parts, just sell them.. it makes no sense to spend the money to fix when you could find 1 that was probably better than the 1 you had, and maybe cheaper too.. trust me get rid of it.. i see this green s14 at this shop in bk, the car has spent more time there than it has with the owner.. it was hit twice, both accidents very bad, all sorts of engine trouble etc.. some cars are cursed man, let it be someone elses headache, or let it r.i.p.. sorry for the long post but you are young and as me being a bit older than you i figure d i should try and help you make a smart and rational decision.. hope you make the right choice, and the right choice is whats best for you.

Sucks, I've been there. I had a mint conditioned '91 and then I popped a curb and hit a tree... :(

Took the parts I wanted off of it and sold it to my friend for a cool $800.

That sucks that you have a lot of work ahead of you..

But, After switching to a new shell and parting out the leftovers, sounds like you'll be on the come up. :)

10-04-2010, 07:59 AM
yea dude, buy a shell, and if its missing anything, take it off ur current s14 .. then with wht u have left, sell the crap and transfer the motor ... fairly easy to find a zenki shell around the tristate area, ill keep an eye out in jersey for u if i find a shell

SilviaSalvia
10-04-2010, 06:58 PM
Yeah but I have no knowledge of how to do any of the transferring to a new shell. And I also don't have a tow truck to tow the shell everywhere. I think it would be easier to just sell all the parts on the 240 and take all the money I got on the settlement and just get a new one..
