I was talking to someone recently who told me he cleaned out his engine by draining the oil(leaving the filter on), then filling the engine with tranny fluid instead of engine oil and running it till its warm. Then drain that and all of the gunk/sludge that was in your engine is now gone. fill it back up with some cheap oil and a new filter. run it again for another 10 minutes. drain that oil and then proceed to put the typical engine oil you choose for your engine and a new filter. He claims it made his engine run way smoother. My question is, is that possible, and could that be bad for your sr20det?:snoop::wackit:

pretty much

i've ran it through until was clean'd out completely

but I have an infinite source of fluid

it does work good tho, i'm sure anyones "way" of using it will work just fine for you

Yes, ATF fluid does a nice job in cleaning engine slug and other junk in side the engine.

I believe putting some ATF b4 your oil change( 10-20miles before ) then flush the oil stuff out..I wouldn't run straight atf in my engine cause the weight on the oil is bit too thin for liking..

so do you just poor in and out,or poor in turn on engine for 10 min then out? or how does this work, this can be done to kade as well right? and does it matter if u use synthetic or nor?

if by what you're asking is if you can pour the atf fluid up top and just let it drain through an unplugged oil pan...yeah you can do that but it won't do anything. you need to have it circulate to for it to be effective.

The detergents in the ATF help with cleaning. Just don't run it for too long as it can cause wear to due it's lack of viscosity.

yes i refer to that as i was sure you can do that, and having the engine running would do a better job,but what would be considered a good amount of time running?5 min or so? and also any kind of atf? or a certaing numb of vis etc?

I googled it and found alot of people saying to use 1 qt and drive no more then 30 min then drain and fill I think using only ATF even at idle would mess so stuff up idk

This man speaks the truth. Running in the engine is fine it's just the viscosity that it's lacking. I personally run 1/2 to 1 quart 2 -3 days prior my oil change if I thought my engine needed a little cleaning. But I also only work 5 miles round trip. Just enough to get it running through the whole system.

I've run a quart of ATF in place of gear oil in my manual transmissions for years, serves the same purpose to clean the gears and synchros from varnish and sludge.
