Today i installed a set of powerd by max coilovers on my S14 :fawkd: they are very stiff and bounce ALOT!

My questions are...

How many miles will it take for them to settle?

Will the car get lower once they do settle?

Should i adjust them or check the adjustments after a certain amount of miles

1. About a week or two of just having weight on them will make them settle.
2. Yes they'll lower a little bit once they're settled.
3. You only need to adjust stuff to your preferences.

i need coilovers on my s14...prolly where ill go next. my lowering springs and gr2 struts(came with the car) have saggy vag's. but yea they will noticeably settle and most likely feel less bouncy too. you may not want to make any adjustments until then...just so you dont have to make more afterwards.

About a couple good days of driving or a week to be sure for a fact. Just adjust the settings to what you need it for not anything else.

Have you played with the damping knobs yet?

just make sure you don't adjust the pre-load and you'll be fine.

I noticed a noise coming from the front left wheel when i turn in either direction... After checking it out i can see the actual spring shifting about 1/4 back and fourth. Its only when i turn the wheel.how can this be fixed and is it safe to drive??

Yeah, the spring is just binding. Oil up the pillow-ball. Also, make sure your collars are tight. If they aren't, when the spring binds, it'll adjust the height of the coilover. Best way of tightening collars is a hammer and a flathead screwdriver.

When we put my friends megans on his s14 we got like 4 people to sit on the front of the car(very large people) and the car held for a few minutes then we felt it sink just barely. After that it took about a week or two for it to settle, and even then it was probably only 1/4 of an inch. Just set them to a ride height that looks decent for now and can be safe if it drops 1/4-1/2 of an inch without you knowing it. Also dont set your coilovers on full low or full high unless directed to by the instructions. I know at least some manufacturers warn that using the coilovers on any of the maxed out settings, weither it be maxxed out ride height(low or high) or setting the dampening to max soft or stiff can lower the life of the coilovers.

PBM encourages their customers to run their coils at full low.

Hence why i said some manufacturers and asked him to check the instruction.

What causes the spring to bind? will it stop on its own? Are the thrust bering kits one size fits all and if i install that there goes the factory preload im guessing...

Lol I have my Max's on stiffness level 8. Only thing I hear is tire rubbing and fender destroying.

Good information to know. I'm in the same boat as the OP. Thanks.

Yup, 8/10 clicks hard. I'm scared that if I have too much travel, my tires will rub wheel well on every little bump. But then again, the only S13 I could even THINK of that's maybe lower than me with 17's is Yuta's pink car.

Dont be skuurd...(IN MY OPINION) there top of the line i probably did something wrong when i installed them. im gonna check it out tomorow and see whats going on... PBM kick ass and i can already feel the springs setteling and the car already droped 1/2 in in the front 1/4 in rear if it wasnt for the spring binding id be smooth sailing. BTW zilvia is better nicoclub!

Top of the line? Does PBM offer more than one type of 240 coil for this one to be top
Of the line?
They aren't top of the line dude. They are just pretty decent like stance, and the new megans(greddy), nothing comparable to some of the hi end coils.

I have full stiff on my pbm. my rear dropped about 1/2 inch. I need to run it on full stiff because the height i am at, i rub on slight bumps.

Ok you have a piont i may have exaderated... but just because they only make one type dosent mean the quality isnt as good. I would say they are the top of the line in their price range. $1,000 they offer replacement parts for $100 and it says on the site no one has ever replaced a damper because of high mileage or track abuse. not only that but you can go as low as your tiny little heart desires.

The binding shouldn't be super loud. At least it isn't for me. Granted I don't have PBM coils. Stance may be a little different.

This makes me scared to put PBM's on my SC.

pbm's are fine when you adjust the dampening and run a 8-6k spring.

They make a pro series now with swift springs. I'm guessing it's probably comparable to the higher end stance coil? PBM's are just waaaaay fucking prettier.

can someone explain spring binding?

A term that is being mis-used in this thread
it refers to a spring compressing to the point of the spring stacking on
top of each other
spring suddenly becomes a solid item and can no long do it's job
this is affected by the spring length and rate

what people are talking about here is twist
a spring has the tendency to want to rotate when it compresses
the load applied plus the compression cause friction in the spring mounts
the trust/torrington/roller bearings allow the spring to twist
with little to no friction
the result is a smoother driving feedback when turning

and you need to order to the same size as your springs ID
