i got my s14.5 last night i drove from sacramento to fresno with NO problems at all and i was cruising around tonight and the RPM start to fluctuate and die. started out of no where. i wasn't racing, revving or doing anything besides driving. sounds like a vac leak but not sure coming from where the intake mani is im very familiar with the KA24de so any ideas?

So what does the s15 front end have to do with your idle problems? lol

Anyways it could be a lot of things, but check for vac leaks first since its pretty easy.

A trick that i have used is to spray carb cleaner around the intake manifold and other vac lines if the car revs a bit then your leak is in the area you just sprayed.

Be warned that people have said that carb cleaner dries up rubber hoses which can cause them to crack, although i have sprayed mine and they have not cracked. I just wanted to give you a heads up.

To check for vac leaks, I always take a ton of incense sticks and place the burning end inside the throttle body and let the valve close down on them to clamp them there, place a sock in the rest of the throttle body to let it seal off. Let them smoke and fill the entire manifold with smoke, you have to relight them occasionally because they go out inside there as the oxygen starts to diminish. Once you've let it fill with smoke really good, take and seal off the throttle body and blow in one of the vac lines going into the manifold. Have someone watch as you do this and the smoke will exit wherever the leak is.
