Did you bother to check the FSM?

Yeah I did. Seems like my exhaust is wrong, and my intake is right, but I just wanted clarification.

It looks like you didn't match any markings on the chain to the the dimples on the cam sprocket.

I see, you turned the crank. The link I provided on my first post should help.

Alright so I have my cams set perfect.

But I STILL cant get my distributor to be "normal."
When I align it with the number 1 spark plug at TDC it wont even run.

So I have to retard it one tooth back. I have to turn the distributor all the way to the right(advance) to even get it to run. And when I check it with a timing light it's at 10 BTDC. If I rotate it backward (retard) the engine shuts off, of course.

So I tried to place the rotor in all positions, and the only one that even kind of works is two teeth back. Like, if you were to set it at the number 1 spark plug at TDC, except rotate it 2 tooth back, and then it has a CRAZY advance, so you have to retard the distributor all the way and it runs at about 30 BTDC which is still bad.

Please help if you know anything, I just finished building this KA, I want it to run right!

Unplug TPS sensor wires, make sure car is warmed up.

Keep trying at it till you get it right. You should be able to get it right after a few tries.

Edit, by keep trying it i mean remove the distributor, you're probably just a few teeth off of where it should be, no big deal.

I have taken out that distributor and put it in every which way possible.

u must check if the bottom dimple on the crank the chain is on the marking, and in the 2nd pics u showed which one is the dark chain? and where is the dimple? all 3 must line up? did u do that?

Just curious, why does it have to line up? A chain is a chain, I thought.

If I set the motor to TDC without the cams attached, and then set the cam chain and cams accordingly, why would the markings matter?

I really do not want to pull off the front cover, that's a terrible task lol

I don't know why! But it's a must did u take of the crank pulley? Technically what ur saying u might get away with,it but in reality when u have an issue and didn't align how the factory Manual says then.... Don't know what to say ... Honda are alined this way too well only in the alignment part since they use belts I'm talking about b series u could have the car at top dead center but if the crank shaft is not lined up to another marking in the block car won't start... So I suggest u align the bottom chain if not u can't eliminate possible solutions... But more than likely I am willing to bet it's that!!!

A chain is just a chain. The markings are intended to make it easier. You can just wing it.

The JWT guide is a very valuable resource.

NO the markings are intended so they can be installed to those markings, no winging it, do it right. it works for some people. but i would follow instructions:2c:

I agree.

Couldnt I just take off the valve cover, cam gears, front cover, and cam chain, and THEN move my motor to TDC so the lower chain is perfect, and then install the cams as the JWT guide says? Sounds like it'd work to me.
