I need a clutch that will hold 550whp and I ran into the RPS max clutches. Which is better the disc or the puck clutch?
ANY INPUT APPRECIATED!!!

Heres something for you to search: How many people have 550whp SR's? and of that number, how many have posted reviews of clutches?
Heres a quick google result: not a whole hell of a lot!:axe:

Actually, a lot.
The real question is, how many of them have 500+ hp and don't know which clutch to buy?
Probably just one.

Its not the HP that you have to worry about but the torque you'd be putting down.
Personally, you need a twin plate and a Z32 or RB25 transmission to handle that power level.

haha Im not so sure "a lot" but I do have a z32 trans so that is covered but the clutch is the issue. A twin disk is out of my budget for now. Just looking for something to get me through until winter... ANYONE HAVE an RPS MAX or ACT 6 puck????????

I've had ACT 6 puck extreme that was undampered. Not a bad clutch but I was only putting down 350 ish on a GT2871R. IIRC, they are rated above 350 ft/lbs of torque, maybe even over 400 ft/lbs. If anything, find the highest torque load for a regular clutch and run with that.

Why not just save and do it once, then spend twice and do the job twice?
I'll never understand halfassing/rushing something, only to spend the money again shortly down the road to do it right. I guess that's what up

RPS Max Street Puck Clutch Kit R33 RB25DET (http://www.phase2motortrend.com/rp.html)
I'm running it on a mildly modded RB25--300 hp/tq. Says it's capped at around 520 torque. I've put about 2k miles on it, and so far so good--but I don't think I really beat the hell out of it. I bought it from Phase2 based on reviews/recommendations I've read for RPS clutches, but those were old reviews, and they're under new ownership. Hopefully it will last a good while since it's only seen street duty.

Seriously better to do it once the first time than to mess up and keep replacing it till you finally decide you had enough.

can you actually continuously beat the piss out of a twin plate? Or do they fail pretty quick too if you slip them off the life at the strip?

The hotter it gets, the less it will slip. At least with other RPS clutches in other applications.
