I read on the BBC that it's going to drop from 127ish million to 100 million by 2050.

the whole love plus thing to me seems symptomatic of japan's negative birthrate, ostensibly caused by intense societal pressure, high cost of living, etc. iirc the birthrate is like 1.2-.1.3 children per woman.

This game isn't the only cause though. It is aimed at a niche market. Couples are just not having children in general. The shrinking population is true and the increasing elderly population isn't helping either.
