SR20DET loud squealing noise

I have a 1996 SR20DET Blacktop.

The noise seems to come from:

1) Water pump/belt
2) Alternator belt
3) Power steering pump/belt

The squealing noise happens every 15-30 min and lasts for about 1-3 min. If I maintained about 1500 rpm when the car was idled, the noise seemed to go away quicker.

The noise started from 0:06 and ended at 0:37.

I put some WD-40 on the bearings for power steering pump and water pump already, but the noise is still there.

Could be your clutch fan. If that is the case then you should replace your belts after as well as they are most likely glazed.

Sorry that I didn't state that in the previous post.

I don't have clutch fan. I have electric fans.

sounds like a drive belt to me. check the tension on the belts and the pulleys to see if they spin freely. then try spraying some pb blaster or get some valve lapping compound and put a little directly on the ribs of the belts.

yes check your belts i had this same problem, just replace them and tight them back up and you should be good to go.

It seems like the squealing noise comes from the loose belt from the alternator. I tightened the alternator belt via the tension bolt. After 20 min of hard driving, the squealing noise happened again and the alternator belt kind of loose again. I re-tightened it again and noise disappeared, and after 20 min of hard driving, the noise happened again.

So how would you fix that?

Should I take out the tension bolt and replace the flat washer with a spring washer? Do you know the size of the tension bolt for the alternator?

I have S14 SR20DET.

are you tightening the bottom 14mm Alt to bracket bolt? (the bolt that connects the Alt to the bracket?

Tighten that sucker down and it should help

I don't think there a alternator diagram on S14 SR20DET manual.

But S13 240SX manual should be very similar.

If we look at the top left of the "Checking Drive Belts" picture, that is the alternator pictures. I tightened the 12mm "adjusting bolt". Since there is a flat washer there, I cannot feel if the bolt was tighten enough. But the belt has less slacks after I tightened the 12mm bolt.

The 14mm bolt that you were talking is at the right side of the "adjusting bolt", right?

I didn't touch that bolt, and it seems like it is very tight already. But I will try to tighten the 14mm bolt as well.

Will the squealing noise happen constantly or randomly?

Because the squealing noise that I experienced happen randomly. Sometimes it happened after I started my car. Sometimes it happened after I drove for 15 minutes.

oh man! i have the same exact problem dude.
it would make the loud noise when i start my car
check ur alternator. bearing on mine was alll loose, so after i changed the alternator, the noise went away when i start my car, but now it still does it when i reach 3500 rpms, exactly.
and my car sounds hella loud. almost like a semi truck.

would the loose bearing on the alternator possible mess up the other pulleys?

The 12mm Adjusting bolt only does that. The 14mm is the locking bolt. You have to tighten that after adjusting to hold it in place or the adjusting bolt will just loosen under tension and vibration.
