Oil light???

Need some help here... Everytime I start my car my oil light comes on and I here a knocking noise for about ten seconds... Then the knocking noise will go away and the light flickers off... I'm thinking oil pump maybe going out??? Any help is appreciated...

Just taking that long to build up oil pressure. Shouldnt take 10 seconds for pressure to build up tho...I cant remember exactly where I read it but if I remember correctly, there's supposed to be a check valve that should keep oil from draining back out thru the pump. Oil is kept in the galleys when the engine is started up to stave off dry starts. That valve could be bad, letting the oil completely drain off the engine down to the sump.

what motor, ka? sr? is a newly swapped motor? need more info

It is a ka... Original motor in a 93 coupe...
