I am looking for either a step by step explaination of what will be taken off first, second, third, etc... with torgue specs, or for someone to scan and poste the proper pages of the FSM. I know this is a pretty big request, but this would be excellent information to be placed into the FAQ forum for all those people who need to replace their head gasket or if they are in the same boat as me and need to replace their whole cylinder head with another one!
I really look forward to your replies and wish me luck on my project,
thanks

Is this for a DE?
If so, the quick rundown:
1. Unplug all harness connections on the head, as well as all vacuum lines from the head that run to elsewhere (don't forget the EVAP line underneath the runners).
2. Remove Intake plenum bolts where the plenum meets the runners.
3. Remove header
4. Remove valve cover
5. Remove cams
6. Remove head bolts
7. Lift head off
Hope this helps for torque specs:

Thanks for the quick reply. It is a 1990 fastback so KA24E. Damn you kind of bummed me out by saying i have to remove the cam shaft. I was hopping this whole head would lift off together and be an easy (well as easy as head work could be)!

well.. the specs i gave and the list are for the DE head. I'm not sure if the SOHC engine requires removal of the camshaft.... it might not, since the SOHC only has one camshaft, and its possible the head bolts clear it.
I'll have to talk to my friend later about the SOHC head since my experience with it is limited so far.

If you didn't know you would have to take the cam off of a timing chain based motor to get the head off, you probably shouldn't be replacing the head yourself. If you are mechanically inclined though, you should be fine. Sorry I only have a S14 FSM...

I like to think of myself as mechanically inclined:) I just haven't done any prepatory work so far so i don't even know what it looks like under the valve cover. I am just trying to get as much information as possible before I start digging around under there! I will be using my father polaroid camera so that i will know how everything looks when i try and put it back together.
All help is appreciated,
thanks agian,

Buy an FSM before you try to do it. asking online for it just won't work very well! at the very minimum get a chiltons (the only one i know of is altima+240sx) to supplement what you get online.

well another thing to make sure...are u gettin the cylinder head from a junkyard or from like a un junkyard place...lol well make sure u take it to get measured...my bro got 2 heads that were warped and the ka24e does have a habit to come off like that...he had to put the cylinder head in a machine shop and get it baked to fit...so that was a real pain in the ***...oh advise to some people out there.,....learn how to put in a spark plug so non of us has to go through this...haha my bros sparks looked like homer simpson..

Download the FSM, but the chiltons book is fine.
Pictures are good, plastic ziplock bags, markers, boxes, and a pad of paper to write notes about what you are doing is better. dont mix your cam caps/bolts. Make sure you use the fsm to spec the deck of th block to make sure it will still seal well. Make sure you clean it well. Have the head serviced by a machine shop before install!!
Its not that bad, just step by step.
