whats the best way to clean inside the motor ??

rebuilding a ka and i want to know peoples opinions on what can be used to clean INSIDE the motor. ive come across people using gas and simple green. i just need to know is there is something that can be used to flush little particles out (dirt, oil, rtv silicone, etc)

water and a tooth brush and snake oil.

or you could have it hot tanked like most people who are rebuilding engines.

^^^ just like he said. hot tank is the way to go. take it to a shop and have them do a complete overhaul clean on it. well worth the money imo

yea ive talked to machinist about hot hot tanking it when i gave him my crank. i guess i really wouldnt call it a rebuild... what happen was i slipped a connecting rod bearing so most of the motor is still together. for me theres just no sense to fully rebuild the ka when ill have a sr soon.

i guess in this situation water and a tooth brush would be my best bet haha

but to answer your question: I used 2 bottles of simple green and a tooth brush, but i also cleaned the steering rack and pretty much everything under the front end. it really all depends on how much oil and dirt there is caked on the motor.

i take a little bit of oil out of my motor and replaced it with diesel fuel and let it run for about 5 minutes..free revving it. then changed the oil. and its good to go.

some may disagree but that technique was told me to from my uncle who is a diesel mech. and owns a shop for over 30 years.

I do the same thing with my f250 diesel every oil change.
