Can anyone give me any information or pointers on changing a clutch on a rb20det skyline? Is there a easy way or a specific way to drop the tranny because I just did a sr20 clutch on my friends car and it was a pain to get the tranny out and back in.
Any info would be great, thanks

No sorry lol I meant I did a s13 sr20 clutch and it was a bit. Of a pain. My car is a r32 skyline gts-t with an rb20det.

The hardest part you guys will encounter will be pulling the box itself out. Basically once the box is drained, everything is disconnected and you are ready to pull the box backwards you will find that the top of the bell housing itself will hit the top of the tunnel and stop the box from dropping. After changing my clutch like 4 times in 6 months I found the easiest, if not the only way to get the box out and particularly get it back in was to CAREFULLY jack the front of the engine up, effectively tilting the entire thing backwards and giving the box clearance to slide back and out. I did this by putting a block of wood on top of a jack and placing the wood NOT against the bottom of the sump, or the crank pully as a dumbass mate of mine suggested :eek3:, but along the very front of the sump where the front bolts are - so you wont dent or bend anything. Tilt it all back till the rear cam covers are pretty close to the firewall, careful not to crush any of the wires, vacuum pipes or coolant pipes that are in between the engine and the firewall, and then slide the box out. Note that you will probably have to rotate the entire box 90 degrees or more on its shaft, one way or another (I forget which way). This technique also helps you get the two nasty bolts at the very top of the bell housing too. After doing this many times i haven't broken any engine mounts, radiator pipes or exhausts but I advise you to keep an eye on all said things the more you tilt the engine. I can imagine the engine mounts in particular splitting if you put too much upwards pressure on the whole thing so be careful and dont over do it. RB20DET R32s are very cheap, common and popular here in New Zealand amongst our 'boy racer' scene so I hear of far too many people actually giving up half way through a simple clutch change cause of the box fouling on their tranny tunnel. Anyways enough blabbing, good luck bud

Thanks for the information man im sure it will help when i start the job this weekend. I kinda figured that you had to do the things you sugested because you have to do alot of similar things when pulling the tranny in a S13 SR.

Pulling an RB20DET transmission is the same shit as pulling an SR tranny. Hell, they're even the same kind of transmission, just slightly different bellhousing.
