So I got the wiring woes fixed with my redtop in the s14, but i've tried starting it and it only starts with the help of good ol' lighter fluid..

does anyone know what the possible reason could be?
once it's on, it idles good no hiccups.

when I give her gas and let go, she'll come down on RPMs and hesistate around idle (~750) and then pick back up.

What could it be?
I haven't swapped out the plugs or done a compression check yet..

Is this the first start up? When it idles, do you spray a very good amount of starter fluid?

I'm thinking you got the fuel lines, in and out, reversed.
Very common.
Just an idea.
If I remember right. The line coming from the filter goes into the rail not the regulator. That's in.
Out is the one coming from the fuel pressure regulator.
Let me know if this was it.
Thanks.

I only spray very little.
very very little gets her started up.

The fuel lines are definitely in correctly..

besides that.. i had a few ideas.. maybe thinking it could be the plugs are bad not getting good enough spark at start or *cross fingers* hopefully not low compression.

Other than that.. i'm not sure what else it can be..

Make sure your fuel lines are setup the right way, check your cam angle sensor (CAS) and see if the timing is set right, check all vacuum lines, all inter-cooler plumbing , MAF, your wiring harness, check and make sure all coilpacks have ignition ,coilpack ground, all grounds are set right...ANy pressure leaks???

-A motor needs oxygen, ignition (Spark),Fuel, and compression to start..

well... obviously your not getting proper fuel...because when you add your own (starter fluid) it starts.

-check injector pulse -----> if no signal check CAS
-check fuel pressure -----> if no pressure check pump
-check fuel filter -----> could be clogged (highly unlikely)
-check fuel pump ------> if its not getting power check ECU

Wait, so even if the motor runs fine after the starter fluid, it could still be fuel related?..

definitely check that your fuel lines aren't crossed..when i did my swap we had the EXACT same problem as you..lol my buddy crossed the lines and had us stumped! line from filter goes to the rail, return goes to fpr. GL

I am sure and verified that it is not the fuel lines being crossed.

120 compression across the board.. 180 with oil.
120 cold
120 hot

but it still runs good when it gets a spray with starter fluid..

can it be fuel related?
im gonna get an inline fuel pressure gauge and see what i get to the rail.

Yeah get a gauge set up or check volt at the Pump some how Pump may be dying
