I searched and read everything there is on this subject. at low speeds, like when im reversing out of a parking spot and turn the wheel all the way, there is this clunking underneath the floor boards. I think i narrowed it down to the tie rod or the tie rod ends but i have no idea what it is. If anyone has any idea, id appreciate it... thanks

from pdm website:

Many owners of older 240SX's can tell you of their front suspension woes. The car handles unpredictably when changing lanes, "klunks" when making tight turns and may be fidgety under braking. If an inspection of your T/C rod bushings brings you face-to-face with the dreaded oozing goo then it's time to read more about this upgrade.

hope this helps you.

I have the cluck, although the car does not have any handling quirks, it clunks quite nicely. One day I'll just replace the TC's with all metal and be done with it. Until then, I can live with a clunk or two.

alright so, i have a 1996, and its not when i change lanes, its when im staring out to move, and i turn it all the way going forward or in reverse it clunks. OR if i go over a speed bump really really slowly, of course, it clunks under the floor boards. I do not feel it in the steering wheel AT ALL! And what does TC stand for, i think its the tie rod(which probably is the same thing as a TC). My friend says that you can get Tein replacements for them at 80 bux ea., so i think i might do that, along with a new right rear spring retainer, cause i snapped off one of the two bolts on it when installing the cusco Rear STB. thanks
heres a post about this subject in 2002(same problem)

And by the way, there is NO unpredictable handling AT ALL, my car kix *** at handling, and at low speeds it clunks so annoyingly, i think something is gonna fall off. I also installed most of the bushings in the Energy suspension set, i left out a few, which i think might have included the camber correct bushings, but i dunno. there was no parts list in the set, so i guessed where everything went and coudnt figure it all out, but the TC bushings are in and theryre brand nerw polyurethane.

my car does the exact same thing. I need new tie rod ends. Im going to go with the ones from PDM Racing. Also during the same time, im gonna go ahead and replace the tension rods too. Might as well you know. :)

But i dunno, you said you replaced all the necessary bushings so...

The only thing i can suggest is check your tie rod ends for play.

TC rod=tension control rod.

well the next thing to go after the tc bushing are the ball joints.

from importnut (http://importnut.net/project240.htm)

With the new tension rods in place, it was apparent that I still had some quirky handling issues. Upon close inspection, it was obvious that my 195000 mile ball joints and tie rod ends were to blame. With a fresh set of parts, my 240 finally has confidence inspiring handing.

thanks, i think its the TC rods then, or maybe the ball joints, if you check out the review section of this site, youll see all kinds of cool parts for your suspension there.

just FYI. I have replaced all the bushings in my suspension, as well as all of the tie rod ends. i still have the clunks. the only things i have left to replace are the strut tower bearings...i think this is my problem. i think the springs are shifting in their seats. check this before you replace a bunch of other crap.
