View Full Version : The Exhaust Clearance Thread.
delete, because apparently it's stupid to try to inform people.

ummmm call me crazy but wouldnt suspension have a large play on the amount of clearance your muffler has to the ground?
on that note, my apexi super megaphone canister is 2.75 inchs from the ground, but the piping is near the middle is less less than 1.5 inches. I am slammed on tein flex's and tucking tire if that helps.

Great thread idea, I've been having a lot of debate about exhausts because of clearance issues

Yeah, that's why i'm looking for exhausts that sit high up and hug the car. So even if you're slammed, they don't cause AS MUCH of a problem as say a large resonated exhaust that hangs down.

Thanks! Yeah, i'm having the same problem. So, I hope a lot of people chime in.

I've been thinking of having a shop custom fab a system. It might weigh more than a pre-built system, but I wouldn't worry about it getting torn off on ramps &speed bumps.

This is the Megan Racing Type-2 Black exhaust. It's a 3" turbo back. Sounds great and looks good as well. my only issue now that my car is getting to that low status is that the way the pipe bends hinders me from lowering the car another inch or 2. Ive got about 2 inch's of space between my wheels and fenders, maybe a little less. The lowest point of the exhaust is a little less then 2 inches off the ground. I'm looking at the JVT duals next. Its an Apexi knock off but it sounds good and has a nice mellow bend around everything.

-PBM Subframe Risers move the subframe closer to the body of the car giving you more exhaust clearance. ***next on my list of mods***
-Have your exhaust hangers cut off and new ones welded on that re-position your exhaust to hang higher. ***Had this done for my muffler can***
*and/or*
-Have the exhaust hangers on the frame cut of and re-positioned to have your exhaust sit higher.
-Have the sections of your exhaust that hang super low cut out, and have new piping welded to give you more clearance.
-Remove the stock Exhaust bracket from the KA transmission mount and have a new bracket fabbed that welds onto your downpipe to sit even with the frame. ***Did this, and have way more clearance***

Those are all great points, but the main focus of this thread is to find an exhuast you don't have to hack up beyond belief to fit.

Due to my crappy fitting OBX header (after poly engine mounts) the header portion of my exhaust tucks slightly above the frame rails. I have a Blitz Realize TT, and it hangs a bit low for my tastes. The huge resonator is almost flush with the rear swaybar/driveshaft, but i wish it hugged the rear axle a little tighter. We'll see how i fare when i lower the car once i get coils. I have yet to scrape my exhaust at my current height with these BS spring the previous owner put (2.5 finger front, 4 finger rear) coils are definitely on the list.

Buddy club Spec 2.
I don't have any clearance pics but just imagine that this doesn't scrape exhaust at all.

BC Spec 2; hose clamps on the hangars; Kazama motor mounts; Nismo trans mount. Only scrapes sway bar and front bumper.

oh LOL at this thread.
if you wanna go low, some custom shit is necessary.
at the very least, repositioning of hangers.
edit: apparently wh0aitznic0 is some sort of god. everything i believed in means nothing now.

hahaha buddy club spec 2 is just a solid 3inch pipe with some bends in it. It's not an exhaust by any means.

Hose clamps on hangers work well. Custom without big mufflers would probably be best.

i too, rock the hoseclamps on hangers.
although the drop in the downpipe does rub sometimes...
cut and weld should help that though

RSR Ex Mag has a good amount of clearance. Only the rear muffle is the lowest hanging part of the exhaust, and even that doesn't hang low.

I consider it an overpriced shiny straight pipe, with hangars. :O

stupid thread...
stupid thread...
Thanks for taking the time out of your day to be a complete ass and not contribute in any way. At least elaborate why you think it's a stupid thread.
Helping people with lowered cars narrow down their search for an exhaust that has good clearance is stupid? If people would post more pictures of their setup the thread would pick up fine.
If you think it's dumb, report it. Don't be an ass for no reason...

Trial and error on how to ride around slammed. Am I lower than the pink beast yet?

Last I checked this was called the exhaust CLEARANCE thread, not the "best working/sounding/looking exhaust" thread.

If it comes with hangars, it is totally worth it.

this pic is useless.it just shows how you cant pull into a driveway in a "lowered", not slammed car.Back to topic.I have an egay cat back.never ever scrape it.I scrape sway bar and framerail before exhaust.hose clamps are magicians.
mega old pic.

if you're superlow don't put a resonator anywhere
straight pipe is almost necessary
wh0aitznic0 whereabouts nj are you?
i'm near nyc and i fucking hit my framerails, subframe, sway bar, and exhaust everywhere.
oh and a good exhaust is this shit i got from Results for Car Exhaust:89-94 Nissan 240SX (http://www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com/servlet/the-Car-Exhaust-cln-89-dsh-94-Nissan-240SX/Categories)
fits really well and has thick walled piping, just don't get a resonator, mine has holes in it from hitting things
