I am purchasing my first 240, a '95 Se. I'm told it needs a motor, no big deal, I can do that. In my efforts to figure out what parts to get for the rebuild I stumble. I am an old school SBC guy and not sure if the concepts for cams, pistons, compression, etc... still hold true or if there is a slightly different approach to selecting internals. I do not want to use forced induction but I would like to get better performance without spending a ton of cash. Here's what I'm thinking:

90mm 10.5:1 Pistons
+.05mm I/E valves
Stage 2 cam
header
2.5" or larger exhaust
High Flow Cat

What other parts should I plan on changing during the rebuild? Things like the timing chain and tensioners? or the waterpump? or oil pump.... Understand what I'm looking for? Anyone in the Little Rock AR area chime in and PM me. I'm mlooking to start a 240 club here.

To be honest...you'd seriously be wasting your time building an N/A KA24DE, unless you plan on dishing out a lot of cash. The most I've ever seen out of an N/A Ka24DE is like 200WHP by a guy named Greaser.

You could build a KA with lower compression pistons, and boost it, and see 230ish WHP on 10PSI with a t28...

Also, the oversized valves dont do much until you get into BIG hp/tq numbers.

And the N/A "greaser" I was talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0BmLsIZ69E

I see. Thanks.

What about the auto trans? Do they hold up to decent power? Is there a shift kit available? I like to drive the backroads on the weekends and enjoy the hills, curves and straights.

auto ka trans r crap..check out the n/a section, over sized vavle wit cams you will benifit from, new chains n tensioners, oil pump kit,new water pump and 11.1 would be a better bet for a chance at 200hp n a xcessive intake mani or custom

I wouldn't waste my time building a NA ka either. You'd be better off finding a stock motor and boosting it. You can make 300-350whp with the stock motor reliably if done right.

Now if you're going to build the motor you currently have and want to boost that, the sky is the limit. There are plenty of guys making over 450whp with build KA's but you will need to do something with that transmission. Either way, check out ka-t.org

It's all preference. If you still would like to build an N/A KA after all the down talk about it I'd talk to this guy:
